Orbital Derelict Floating Parts and Sattelite Collector

Not a job most people would like to do. unrewarding in terms of honor, good payment, but then, dangerous and well, lets be honest... boring.
it's space. things crash, ships break down, lost parts, eons of space crafts in orbit. A flying car. who would have guessed?
Earth had a lot of garbage flying around. Most of it will fall down if you wait long enough, but to ensure safety for space travelling ships they clean it up. day after day after day... its an endless mess of flying crap.
Using a medium sized Grabber (with mechanical arms) as they call the yellow flying fishbowl with engines, the larger garbubble or smaller grabob are usefull for other specific tasks, they fly around and 'grab' the components with large retractable arms. it compresses if possible and if not it pulls it around in silk-steel nets until its full, then they deliver it to the garbage collection station connected to the Space Station Oedipus and get payed. they are connected to 'Garbinet' a automated priority assignment system. The system alerts if there is a higher risk situation. like a derelict sattelite that is heading on a collison course with a spaceship. These alerts are good pay and pilots race to be the first.

Career

Qualifications

a pilot license type 2, training to learn grabbing is provided. basic space survival training. and comms etiquette.

Career Progression

one starts as a simple garbage belt transporter. A large array of static space debris that needs to be compressed and delivered to the garbage station. learn the ropes, do exam and get a pilot license 3 allowing you to fly near the transit zones. Make a mistake and you have to do the exam again. if you are capable enough you can join the larger ships crew to fly human missions (collegues to and from earth into space boarding the space station) from there its up to you. only a license type 4 allows you to join alerts and scramble to rescue a spaceship from garbage. in rare occasions the garbage collection fails and accidents happen. (sometimes ending in tragic deaths and more garbage)

Payment & Reimbursement

the payments are good, but the maintenance costs are high. if you are a good pilot and keep your vehicle in good shape you can make decent money. there is no insurance that wants to insure you or your vehicle. but they pay very well on alert repsonse. The main dollars go to the actual pilot doing it, but if a responder gets close enough he or she gets a payment as well.

Other Benefits

Learn to fly, protect you fellow pilots from danger. Commercial and military pilots know how important the work is and they volunteerly pay for a fund just for pilots like you to help in maintenance costs. (and as a way to say thank you)
