Emperor of Loricanium
"The Rectors are sheep, the Consols are herding dogs, but the emperor, he is the wolf in the form of the shepherd that guides them both."The Empire of Lorica was one borne into the world of blood and iron, wrenched out of the pitiful hands of electors and rectors and all manner of delightful title set upon from sire to brood at the expense of the people of Lorica. Risen from the ashes of a rebellion from the general Kaeso Atilius Canio, the emperor was elected not by the people but by the gods themselves, as evidenced by his conquest across the Vetolorio into the capital of Caterego.
Qualifications
There is no explicit qualifications for the position of emperor as generally the previous emperor selects his heir from within his own council. However, as a general tradition, it has generally been some form of military commander, generally within the Legio that the Emperor himself served in before becoming emperor.
Requirements
The only requirement is that the person must be Loricanian, and a male.
Appointment
Emperorship of Loricanium has been appointed and named by the previous office holder, choosing among his most trusted advisors and generals.
After the emperor dies, the last appointed successor (it's not uncommon in a lifetime to have a change of heart and allegiance) is taken to the Temple of Fields and stripped bare before the giant statue of Adon, the bringer of light. Once he is determined to have the blessing of Adon by his priests, he is clothed in finery, and given The Eye of Idite, having been brought from the dead emperor's neck to the temple by a special courier as the former regent was prepared for cremation. The successor's first act is to accompany the body of the emperor to the top of Mount Kokintrasus, and physically carry the linen wrapped body into the regum sepulcrum, which sits off of the main caldera of the volcano. Inside lies dried and preserved the whole of the emperors of Lorica, each dried and embalmed by the heat and sulfur. The Successor must confer with his predecessors and once he emerges from the tomb, he is considered one of them.
Duties
The Emperor is the main ambassadorial entity of Loricanium, hosting heads of state in Castarego and working out treaties and trade with other nations.
Responsibilities
The emperor's responsibilities are wide ranging and varied depending on the level of delegation the emperor chooses to practice. Whereas some will host grand balls and other niceties for dignataries and other heads of state, other emperors will be more driven to filing the finest details from trade negotiations.
Benefits
The emperor is the primary land holder in Lorica, as all land not under private ownership is considered his. As such much of the farmlands and forests, and much of the profits that they bear, are considered the emperors directly, though is generally held in state trust to fund the empire as a whole.
Accoutrements & Equipment
Specifically the emperors have had their own style outside of a few tokens of office. The Eye of Idite is an example of such retinue.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
The emperor was forged in blood and iron, and as such one can only be removed from being emperor in the same vein. Though it is generally considered a taboo in the modern age, there have never been a shortage of murdered emperors through Lorica's history.
History
The Emperor of Lorica is the first title above king that Kokintras has had. Despite the Empire of Krober calling itself the first empire, and it was established first, it has never truly held an emperor. Canio pointed this out as he declared Lorica the first true empire of Kokintras, a title that has generally stuck across the continent as a description much to the chagrin of the Empire of Krober and it's king.
Cultural Significance
Fealty to the emperor is tantamount in Loricanian culture, the ability to hold status is dependant on this oath of loyalty.
