Zidrik

One of the 5 main continents of the Material Plane. Zidrik is home to primarily orcs, lizardfolk, goblins, hobgoblins, ogres, bugbears, and trolls. It is the North-easternmost continent, and is not largely influenced by any one plane, but Ethereal Plane influences a small portion of the East coast, and the Feywilds influences a small portion of the West coast.   Life in Zidrik is hard, to say the least. The land is difficult to farm and mountains block most of the wind from the North, causing there to be little rainfall. There is much competition for resources, often in the form of warfare, and only the strong survive.   The orcs and lizardfolk of Zidrik have long vied for the milder, more verdant climate of Home. And long have they tried to acquire it the only way they know how: By force. Unfortunately for them, and fortunately for Home, the Kyojak mountains stand firmly in their path, forcing them to skirt its edges or face the dwarven strongholds within. Zidrik now occupies much of the small area just North of the mountains and is constantly trying to get the upper hand or enough manpower to move an army around them and begin their takeover.

Geography

Poor soil, rugged badlands, harsh deserts, and rocky chasms form the bulk of Zidrik.

Far Northern Region

The Verdis forms the bulk of the Northernmost region of Zidrik and is the only area on the continent that can truly be called lush. Large (by Zidrik's standards) trees and bushes cover the area and the grass is green. Centered in the Verdis is the Jagged Spire, a massive pillar of unknown origin that clearly wasn't man made. None of the plant life of the Verdis grow near the pillar, so it is often avoided for superstitious reasons. The city of Zuteg is built along the Eastern border of the Verdis, right before the land narrows into a strait. Just East of the strait is a small bit of land covered in forest, not nearly as lush as the Verdis, but greener than most of Zidrik.   Just South of the Verdis, the land narrows into another strait, on which the city of Kruk is built. Kruk is the largest and most powerful city in Zidrik, owing much of its growth to being one of the few settlements with an abundance of resources. They are North of the rain-blocking mountains and as a result, it rains there regularly. The ocean provides them with fish and the Verdis provides them with food and water.

Northern Region

Just South of Kruk, the land widens and the Kruk Mountains stand tall, blocking the moist wind from the North. Air and water sslizzidt thrive in the peaks. Many of the taller mountains here reach the Plane of Air, though the locals rarely use them to get there. At the base of a few of the Northernmost mountains, snow runoff pools in a silty, salty swamp called the Salt Marsh. Along the coast to the Southeast, the mountains gradually shrink into the Grakurath Hills.   As the hills end along the small portion of the East coast influenced by the Ethereal Plane, the treeline of the Skittering Forest begins. Strange chittering, moaning, and howling noises come from deep within this mysterious wood, and few have dared explore it for answers. Few who have, returned, and few who returned had answers.   West of the Grakurath Hills, Zajil's Spring creates the only major river on the continent. Several small springs can be found on Zidrik, but Zajil is the only one that puts out enough water to form a river before it all evaporates. Whereas most rivers get larger as they get farther from their spring by picking up more water along the way, Zajil River gets progressively smaller the farther it travels due to how little other water there is in the area.

Central Region

In the Western part of this region lies the Bachet Forest, growing in the small portion of Zidrik that is heavily influenced by the Feywilds. The vegetation is primarily hard, woody shrubs and gnarly trees that have grown to great sizes due to the planar influence. Several tribes of powerful goblins not found anywhere else call these woods home, as do many tasloi.   East of the forest is the Korton Plateau Range, a series of massive sheer-faced, flat-topped mountains, primarily inhabited by fire and earth Sslizzidt. The Zajil River, one of the few large water sources in Zidrik, pools at the base of two of these mountains in a small lake that is simply called Zajil.

Southern Region

The Northernmost feature, or lack thereof, in this region is the Dead Desert, an immense expanse of fine dust and salt that spans nearly the whole width of Zidrik. It acts as a natural barrier that few cross. Other than the earth creatures and undead who live in these wastes, he residents of Zidrik know little about the Dead Desert and what happens there.   In the South is Ghaiti's Chasm, a deep, sheer gaping wound in the earth that houses the city of Zhod down in it's depths. The chasm offers much protection from the blistering sun and the residents gather water from the occasional spring in the sides of the cliffs.
