Description

Wild halflings are the barbaric xenophobes of the N'Waki Jungle. Aggressive and callous on a good day, and savage and cruel on a bad one. Upon stumbling into wild halfling territory, most outsiders quickly find them selves surrounded on all sides by these masters of stealth. From there they could be met with a reaction ranging from angry shouted threats and demands to leave, to being attacked with no warning. Even when wild halflings do decide to try to convince others to leave their territory, they only do so in halfling, the only language they know. As most halflings are loath to share their language with other races, the wild halfling's attempts at "communication" are rarely successful with any groups that do not contain a halfling to translate. And even when such a translator is present, cultural differences often cause enough misunderstandings that his role quickly becomes moot. Encounters with wild halflings often end with combat regardless of such attempts at diplomacy. This is largely due to the fact that they view raised hands as a threat and any attempt to get closer or shake hands as an open attack. If they see a party raise their hands, they typically respond by entering a defensive posture, with their weapons raised, and wooping or hissing. Any attempts at walking closer to them (other than turning around and walking towards the halflings in the back of the ambush) or touching them are swiftly met with open hostility.   The fiercely territorial wild halflings claim nearly half of the land in the N'Waki Jungle. There they have two major territories, one in the East and another in the Northwest. Those in the Northwestern territory prefer to use blowguns loaded with hollow darts filled with venom from the massive spiders that also reside there. Their ambushes often include several blowgunners camouflaged high in the trees, waiting with their blowguns aimed at the intruders. The wild halflings in the Eastern territory don't share their cousin's penchant for poison, but do occasionally utilize snake or wasp venom when hunting. They are just as deadly as their cousins, however. They are master riders, and mount dire corgis, dire chipmunks, and dire chickens for sport, hunting, and warfare. Most outsiders fail to take them seriously when they see such a seemingly innocuous sight. Some mock them; a few think their threats are mere jokes. All find out too late how serious the halflings were and just how cruel they can be while they're being eaten alive by the very animals they just mocked.
