Description

Long ago, before the Planar Collapse, a few tribes of goblins lived in what is now the Bachet Forest. During the Collapse, waves of mystical energy from the Feywilds surged into the area and infused with all the plants, animals and goblins living there. All reacted differently. Those that reacted poorly mostly shriveled up and died, but those that reacted well grew bigger and healthier, and were infused with a supernatural vigor. Plants grew taller and bore more plentiful fruit. Animals were faster and could run longer. And those goblins who reacted positively got the best of the deal. They grew taller, stronger, and healthier, but also more beast-like. Some grew horns or claws, some grew beaks or sharp teeth, but all were forever changed.   Bachet goblins are a unique race with strong ties to the Feywilds. They have little in common with their lesser cousins and rarely interact with them. They are bestial, yet tribal. A few are nomadic, but rarely stray more than a few day's journey from the edge of the Bachet Forest. And nearly all are ancestor worshipers. They are strongly matriarchal, with their chief and shaman always being the same woman. She will typically choose three or four mates during her life and have a child or two with each. It is not uncommon for the chief-shaman to become overwhelmed with her duties and delegate some of her less important tasks to one or two trusted women in her tribe.   All bachet goblins are born with claws, fangs, or some other natural attack that represents their connection to the wilds. The type of attack seems to be random with each individual, having little to no correlation with their parents'. The appearance that it takes, however, does. A mother who has a dark brown beak with lighter splotches might have a daughter with antlers, sharp teeth, tentacles or claws in the same color scheme, for example. The details for these natural weapons are below.   Regardless of the attack, choose the damage types it will deal (bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing.) If 2 or all 3 types are chosen, the damage is always divided evenly among them. Once chosen, the damage type(s) cannot be changed (without the use of transformative magic and Permanency or a Miracle or Wish.) If used as a primary attack, a natural weapon uses the goblin's full strength bonus, but all other attacks made that round, including manufactured weapon attacks take a -5 penalty and only add half strength bonus to the damage. If used as a secondary attack, a natural weapon uses half the goblin's strength bonus and the attack is made at a -5 penalty. The multiweapon fighting feat reduces these penalties to 2. If the goblin has only one natural attack (bite or gore) and only attacks with that one natural weapon in a round and makes no other attacks, that attack uses 1 1/2 times strength bonus for damage.   Bite: The goblin has fangs, large grinding teeth, a beak, or the like. The bite deals 1D8 points of damage. Claw: The goblin has sharp claws, bony spikes, hard bony nubs, or the like on his hands. These claws deal 1D6 points of damage. Gore: The goblin has antlers, horns, tusks, or the like. They deal 1D8 points of damage. Talon: The goblin has sharp claws, bony spikes, hard bony nubs, or the like on his feet. These talons deal 1D4 points of damage. Tentacle: The goblin has 2 long, slender protrusions on some part of his body, typically the shoulders, shoulder blades, under the arms, hips, or head. These tentacles deal 1D4 damage.
