Pilgrimage to Weoroldaesc
Ever since the old city around has been abandoned, the young Beordans were sent on pilgrimages towards this ancient place of sacred power to officially be recognized as adults and receive Larus' blessing. The pilgrimage often takes an entire month, during which the young survive entirely through their own skills in hunting and gathering as well as the charity of others.
On the second day after their birthday, they finally set off on the great journey, providing for themselves and sleeping among the trees for an entire month. Of course, this can be quite difficult, in first line for the more intellectually inclined and those of feeble body. That is why a long tradition of helping these youth has developed: those that fail to hunt for the night will always be offered a meal from a local family. Those that lose all their arrows through careless shooting will be restocked from the nearest militia. When an especially cruel storm rages, they will be invited inside to stay in stranger's homes for the night.
Once arriving at the Weoroldaesc, they spend a week in prayer and meditation in the large temple at its feet before setting off on their journey back home, often having attained an entirely new view of life.
However, where this once was a practice partaken in on the entire island, the youth of the coastal cities have been forced to abandon this rite, as the Vailian companies they work for are unwilling to grant them a month of free leave, making the temple far less visited in the modern day.
Execution
On the day of a Beordan's 16th birthday, a large feast is held for them, where they receive rudimentary cloth armour alongside 60 arrows. On the next day, they will build their own bow: where before they have only been taught this by their parents and had their guiding hand show them how it is done, this is the first time they do it completely alone. On the second day after their birthday, they finally set off on the great journey, providing for themselves and sleeping among the trees for an entire month.
