Far Northerners

The Far Northerners is an umbrella term for anyone braving the extreme cold of Journey's End, the Northern Pole filled with stone, snow, and preciously little life.
They have adapted to the extremely harsh conditions they are subjected to in this terrain, developing a unique culture that is entirely different to what can be found anywhere else in the world of Engwilt.

Physiology

The Far Northerners look very ghastly to the casual observer - indeed that is why intrepid explorers that actually stumbled upon them took to giving them the unflattering moniker of 'Corpsemen'. Their skin is extremely pale, thanks to their bodies containing almost no blood anymore, resulting in slashes to their arteries only drawing a few droplets of blood.
Most other humanoids would be unable to survive with this little blood, which is why certain scholars want to classify them as a wholly different species, however, the consensus is still to call them an ethnicity, since any child born and raised in the Far North develops this strange peculiarity.
For sustenance, they consume whatever plants and animals they can get their hands on, yet due to the extreme inhospitality of the island they live on, they are lean enough for their bones to be visible through their skin. While this would be a death sentence for most other ethnicities, starvation among the Far Northerners is unheard of. As a matter of fact, they easily live twice as long as most others to the ripe old age of 120 years.

Culture

Due to Journey's End's rough conditions, they are organized in small nomadic clans, often only counting one to two dozen members per clan, hunting the few birds that still live there.
They sleep in caves, since there are no natural resources on the island that would permit making tents or even beds, and the only clothes they are wearing are decrepit rags once sold to them by adventurers or even brought by those that joined them. Thanks to having no diversion other than the occasional hunt when a bird is finally sighted, they spend most of their lives contemplating all things magical and spiritual, resulting in many impressive insights into the nature of the gods and the Correspondence.
Another major aspect of their culture is that they do not procreate: instead, the only way they increase their numbers is through exiles - especially vile criminals that were sent here by other kingdoms - as well as hermits that want to escape their past and atone for their sins.
