Daubmen
The Daubmen are humanoid creatures made entirely of clay, usually far taller and thicker than a normal human. Despite this shape, they are not considered to be sentient at all, as they usually show no signs of personality or free will at all, instead blindly obeying whatever command they are given.
Despite seemingly being their creators, the devils never use them during their dealings on the surface, yet it is unknown whether they might be used in their strongly isolationist Republic.
Their feet are toeless, however, their massive hands have five equally massive fingers on them which can be used to operate various tools, which often have to be made specifically for them thanks to their size.
While they are unable to disobey orders - problematically from anyone who issues them, not just their master - they are equally unable to willingly inflict harm on other creatures, making them unsuited as bodyguards or soldiers, despite their immense strength. Whether this is natural or an inhibitor placed on them by the devils is unknown.
This alone is enough for all nations aside from Grand Vailia to object to their use on moral grounds, actually shunning their neighbouring state for their use. However, thanks to the increased productivity and revenue generated through trade with Hell, they can afford this political isolationism.
Origin and Use on Engwilt
It is unknown how Daubmen are created or if they are able to reproduce at all - they are an export from the New Republic and currently, the only nation that permits the sale of these creatures within their borders is Grand Vailia, however, there are cases of them being smuggled into other nations as well.Despite seemingly being their creators, the devils never use them during their dealings on the surface, yet it is unknown whether they might be used in their strongly isolationist Republic.
Physical Features
While their shape is that of a humanoid, they share few other resemblances: their heads are often completely blank, although they sometimes have an unmoving face carved into them. Their low, gravelly voices seem to emanate from somewhere deep within them instead of from a mouth.Their feet are toeless, however, their massive hands have five equally massive fingers on them which can be used to operate various tools, which often have to be made specifically for them thanks to their size.
Life
These massive and strong creatures require no sleep nor sustenance, labouring without pause or complaint. When they are exported from Hell, they are already in their 'adult' state and no ageing takes place until they suddenly just stop moving roughly 7 years later, calling into question whether they even have a form of maturing or are created in this state already.
Unfinished Daubmen and Cultural Perception
An unfinished Daubman misses something - sometimes as small as a toe, sometimes an entire arm or leg, or, most alerting, having a fully moving face. This seems to drastically alter their personality: they actually develop some form of sentience and are free to obey or disobey orders just as any other mortal, have feelings and more often than not resort to lawlessness. This alone is enough for all nations aside from Grand Vailia to object to their use on moral grounds, actually shunning their neighbouring state for their use. However, thanks to the increased productivity and revenue generated through trade with Hell, they can afford this political isolationism.
