Kajisgaard

Also known by its original name: Kargilaq, or more currently as simply Karjis for those invested in unificiation, is a large, Temperate-to-Arctic nation. It was initially inhabited by a variety of races including: humans, firbolg, halflings, wood elves, dwarves, kenku and tabaxi. Lycanthropes are also rumored to exists in large proportion in the wooded areas.

The climate is not particularly hospitable to farming, however the summer months are good enough for plots of rye. Fishing and hunting are major staples and gathering from natural food forests became part of the collective culture of the wooded areas. In the north, whaling and more extreme Arctic Circle traditions formed. The mountains are glacially formed and the rockbed is mostly granitic.
The different races lived together in approximate harmony. The Kenku in the south and the mountain-swelling tabaxi are rivals. Humans and dwarves sometimes clash over resources. The halflings are generally well liked and get by, by being hospitable and friendly to all. This gets them very far, looking at the historical record.

The Arctic north (Rimheim) is settled by Tabaxi and humans. The mountainous centre (Kepbjer Range) by tabaxi, humans, dwarves and firbolg. The Valley (of Monsters, aka. Uhyrsdal) is considered a Plagueland and avoided due to the prevalence of hostile wildlife and terrain. The Western plains (Faargard) are inhabited by humans, halflings and elves. The forested Eastern coast (Firkyst) by the same, plus kenku and firbolg. The southern lakes (Mansoen) are inhabited largely by humans, but also halflings, elves and kenku.

The islands are:
  • The Four Sisters, a system of four rocky islands. Inhabited primarily by Kenku, the smallest island is a sacred meeting place for burials, marriages, coming of age ceremonies and holidays by the native peoples of the area.
  • The Giant’s Table, the large island to the East. It is perpetually shrouded in mist and the rocks are extremely jagged, making it a known sailing hazard. Many ships have wrecked there and it’s become something of a storied location, and avoided with a wide berth. It is known as Ihjeltage (Death's Table) to the Kolnaer-born Esindran sailors.
  • The Wolf, the long island to the North. Usually connected to the mainland by ice. It serves good send-off point for whaling ships. This is also where Esindran ships first landed. It is also called Ulvenijs. There are, indeed, a lot of wolves here.
  • The Crows, the myriad of islands to the West. Largely uninhabited due to the strange magicks that broil there.
