Catalainia

Home to the descendants of Zeus' animalistic offspring, Catalainia was verdant and rich; a land of plenty whose original inhabitants wanted for nothing until the arrival of General Aedis Ala in the year 256 BC.   Where once the Aarakocra, Kenku, Lizardfolk, Tabaxi, Tortles, Centaurs, Loxodon, and Minotaurs lived their lives in relative harmony - insofar as interactions between predators and prey can ever be truly harmonious - the arrival of a human army, hungry for land and greedy for gold, posed an existential threat. Driven before the steel and spells of General Aedis' forces, some of the native Catalainians chose to stand and fight.   The lucky ones were killed in battle. The rest were sent back to Emeriss in chains.   Taken as personal amusements, amusing oddities, or powerful workers, the first Catalainians to set foot in the heart of the Empire were sold at hitherto unimaginable prices. By imperial edict, the capture of slaves became as integral to the empire's plans on Catalainia as the search for precious metals and other, traditional goods and soon Ensign's coffers overflowed with gold.   Whole families were taken alive, bound and sold at auction to the noble and the wealthy until more Catalainians lived in shackles on Emeriss than free upon their native world.   Then came the Quinn.   Fierce warriors and deadly casters, the Quinn matched the armies of Duras in every way, slashing and burning their way across Catalainia and engaging the imperial army in a stalemate war that lasts for two hundred and seventy-eight years, reducing the once idyllic realm to a battle scarred husk of its former resplendence.   When at last the joint rebellions of Ruelle, the Siegenthal, and the Vennican Dominion forced Duras to abandon its holdings in Catalainia in order to preserve the Empire itself, little remained of the land of plenty that General Aedis had discovered all those centuries before.
