Emaxus is currently undergoing a large entry into a new Age (and a large revision of the current Age). Consider this an active construction zone: things are moving around, getting changed, and the world's being reorganized. Apologies for the inconvenience!

The Great Arranger

Scattered rumors and myths tell of a device that chronicled a great many things: the history of the world, both natural and social, and even the thoughts and emotions of those who "imprinted" with the mechanical marvel, a machine that could write and chronicle countless thousands of pages worth of knowledge with a thought. Indeed, legends tell that the amount of knowledge stored within the Great Arranger was so vast, it would dwarf even the greatest repositories of knowledge in the Age of Extant. But such was the way of the Age of Rebirth: great plenty and vast knowledge, all lost.

The Machine

Though even the handful of mentions and rumors of the Great Arranger vary, most settle on a few key details as to the construction and formation of the arcane wonder. They tell of a vast, library-sized array of interlocking and shifting brass and gold rings, each inlaid with crystalline lattices that powered the machine and channeled the arcane energy needed to access and update the repositories within. These rings, each dozens of feet in circumference, varied in size perfectly to where they could roll and swing within each other, similar to a puzzle ring. At the center of these rings was the interfacing apparatus, a desk-like construct of metal and crystal which allowed any skilled spellcaster to imprint with and access and/or update the Great Arranger.   When the machine was active, the rings spun and encased the user within their arcane shell. When dormant, they formed into one concentric ring perpendicular to the floor and wreathing the apparatus of the Great Arranger itself.

The Contents

The Great Arranger was said to have two primary functions: chronicling the history of the world, and the personal histories of those gifted enough to use it. This was to provide not only a consolidated, objective history of Emaxus and her climes and peoples, but also a detailed repository of the knowledge of the archmages who used the machine. The former function was achieved constantly and passively, as the various arcane enchantments upon the Great Arranger allowed it to witness and sense almost all major events in the world, magical, natural, or societal, while the latter objective was achieved every time a spellcaster imprinted with the Arranger. When they imprinted, they opened their mind to the machine, granting it their entire repository of thoughts, knowledge, and emotions from birth in exchange for access to the repository within.

Mysterious Origins

Of those few who have heard even tales of the Great Arranger, no one knows its true origins. Whether it was made by a god, a technological genius, an archmage, or some mix of the three, all that is known is that the Great Arranger is pre-Reckoning. It is also assumed, and is highly probable that, the Great Arranger was destroyed in the God-War.
