Emperor Alaric Reinier Hendrik Bhaltair

Alaric Bhaltair is the Emperor of the Reinvald Empire. He is seen as both a religious and cultural leader. It is said that Enjallar helped Corlain rebuild and expand after the devastation of the Divine War and blessed the ruling family so that they would rule justly and their people would never fall to darkness. Enjallar is still the only formally recognized god of the empire, although many others are worshiped.

History

He came to power shortly after various groups of demons aligned with the Demonic Realms began terrorizing towns on the outskirts of the Empire. He exiled all Vaedrin from cities within the Empire as a result of these attacks, a decision which was met with mixed opinions.
He met and soon married Roxana Vinal just a few years after becoming emperor. Together they had one child, a daughter named Sonja. When Sonja was just a few months old, Roxana was killed by Rohvir assassins on a carriage ride to the countryside. Alaric was distraught at his wife's death and swore he would do everything in his power to forever purge demons from these lands. Many around him note a shift in him around this time. In the months leading up to his wife's death, he became more secluded and cold towards those around him.
As Sonja grew older, it became clear that she possessed divine powers. Alaric claimed she was "blessed by Enjallar" and would become the light that would drive back the demons. Because of these divine powers, some began to question where she came from and if she was truly the child of the Emperor and Empress, but none of these rumors ever gained much ground.
Alaric bolstered the military and included war mages into the army as well. The demons amassed an army of their own and began to attack, focused mostly on the southern border of the empire. But recently these attacks have lessened, leading people to think the demons are preparing for a greater assault.
