The Deific Hierarchy

The lands of Elyria play host to many powerful entities. These godly beings are responsible for the functions of the natural world. By divine law, there is a hierarchy of gods, which must not be disrupted. As a result, no lesser deity, greater deity, or overgod can ever die. Beings that hold a place as a mythic power can be killed, and their positions of power are constantly changing in the endless battle for power among mortals.

Overgods

The overgods are the physical manifestations of the laws of the universe. These entities are so beyond mortal understanding that none of the people of Elyria have ever seen them. It is said that to look upon the form of one of these universal beings would be to burn one's mind to ash from the inside out. None have seen them save for the greater deities. There are five overgods in existence:
  • Balance
  • Law
  • Chaos
  • Good
  • Evil

Greater Deities

The greater deities hold domain over the natural laws of Elyria. Like the overgods, these entities tend to operate beyond mortal understanding; however, some select individuals who have been given favour have met these entities. Meeting a greater deity is something that happens only once in a millennium. There is nobody in living memory who has met a god, beyond myths from times long past, so there is some debate surrounding the legitimacy of these tales. The four greater deities are:
  • Sylvanis, Father of the Wilds
  • Enki, Mother of Civilization
  • Iris, Keeper of Life
  • Sekoua, Arbiter of Death

Lesser Deities

Lesser deities operate within the wide domain of the greater deities. They embody the seasons, the suns, the moons, and the stars. These deities walk the lands of Elyria, and adventurers deemed worthy, or particularly troublesome, have been known to have audiences with them. The lesser deities of Elyria include:
  • Auril, Goddess of Winter
  • Ostara, Goddess of Spring
  • Sunna, God of Summer
  • Ceres, God of Autumn
  • Apollon, God of the South Sun
  • Helios, God of the North Sun
  • Crete, Eldest Moon
  • Luna, Middle Moon
  • Sylvana, Youngest Moon
  • Polaris
  • Sirius
  • Centurion
  • Galagis
  • Vega
  • Cano
  • Iodiphese

Mythic Powers

The mythic powers are comprised of mortals who have managed to accumulate a great amount of power. Most of them have a religious or cult following across Elyria. Despite their power, their positions are tenuous. They could be killed at any time, and their powers could be usurped from their grasp. For the most part, their titles pass from the current entity to a successor who has been deemed worthy after undergoing various trials in the twilight years of their lives. Currently, the known mythic powers consist of the following:
  • Araxis
  • Dendar the Night Serpent
  • Trostani, Triumvirate of the Eld
  • Totem Animals of the Eld
  • Cryonvain, Blight of the North
  • Orax, Lord of Undeath
  • Pachama, Guardian of Avendesora
  • Selesna the Immortal Love
  • Malchior the Tormentor
  • Xalazan, Bearer of Lightning
  • Wandjina, Bringer of Storms and Dreams
  • Talhunna, Thunder Incarnate
  • The Elder Elementals
  • The Seelie Queen
  • The Unseelie King
  • Koralun, Master of the Wild Hunt
Type
