The White Dragons

The White Dragons, the oldest creatures ever to live and the first of their Race, are more commonly known as The God's of Fire. They were the first of the Speaking Creatures to enter Elthir and the last to leave it and there is no other race in the world that is more surrounded with myths and legends than they.   The wisest of creatures and the strongest of beasts, these formidable dragons have gone down in history as the most powerful of all living things.   But that did not keep them from being driven out of civilization. With the coming of Mortals and the age of industry and exploration, these great and noble creatures were cursed and driven from the land.   It is strange to think that dragons so powerful could be removed with such ease by creatures as frail and stupid as the Mortals. But there was more at work than first appeared and treachery and treason played a crafty hand in their disappearance. It is a dark tale, the story of their exile, but it is a vital part of Elthir's history. But, alas! the Rulers of the Mortal Races do well at feeding the common people their corrupted propaganda and in this current Age, few remember the dragons and who they were. Their story has been forgotten. The truth of what was done to them is buried beneath years of carelessness and ignorance.   The People believe that dragons have long since been exterminated and worse, that when they did live they were horrible, blood thirsty monsters seeking to wipe out the Human Race and gain ultimate power for themselves.   If only they knew the truth...

Basic Information

Anatomy

Giant creatures, with wing spans reaching up to 50 feet, the White Dragons out size even the largest of the average Elthirian Dragons.   For more complete information on anatomy, morphology, and the general physical make up of dragons, please read this article.

Genetics and Reproduction

White Dragons do not reproduce. Twenty five White Dragons entered Elthir and twenty five is what has remained. They are an elite Race and so shall they always be.

Growth Rate & Stages

They have much the same growth rate as Elthirian dragons, but slower. Once they reach the age of 100, they stop growing older and stay the way they are till death.

Ecology and Habitats

White Dragons are especially suited for cave dwelling and according to myth, their most common abodes were deep caves and caverns.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Unlike other dragons, White Dragons, by their own magical design, have no need to eat.

Additional Information

Social Structure

There are no two White Dragons that live in the same area. They are loners, setting themselves apart from each other and all other Races. Thus, they have little need of any type of social structure.

Facial characteristics

Although their eyes are shrewd and stern, their is a kindness in their faces that is strange to behold in such ferocious looking beasts. Like other, lesser dragons, the White Dragons' magnificent heads are adorned with big, spiky plates which start at their crown and travel, diminishing in size, the whole length of their body to the tip of their tail.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Myth says that they resided all over the world, in no particular location.

Average Intelligence

The wisest of all living things. Next to the knowledge of the White Dragons, wizards are fools and sages are school boys. There are few who have come close to gaining such wisdom as they possess.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

White Dragons have incredible sensory capabilities and they are known for their amazing seeing and hearing abilities. They also have a keen sense of smell.   Their magical abilities are much more advanced than average dragons and they posses such magic skills as precognition, teleportation, invisibility, telepathy and immorality. They are extremely wise and at times they have displayed such understanding that to mortal man it would seem as magic.

Civilization and Culture

Courtship Ideals

White Dragons never mate; they have no need to.

Relationship Ideals

They believe in a solid, undivided loyalty to family and Race. Treason is unforgivable and desertion, unheard of. They hold a supreme reverence for each other and will guard the lives of their fellow dragons no matter the cost.
Origin/Ancestry
Legend says that they came from beyond the Southern Seas, but no one knows. No one was here to tell from whence they came and how...they simply were.
Lifespan
Immortal.
Conservation Status
White Dragons are immortal, although the Humans try incredibly hard to convince themselves and each other, otherwise.
Average Height
70 - 80 feet.
Average Weight
60, 000 pounds.
Average Length
60 - 70 feet.
Average Physique
Huge, muscular beasts of incredible size, the White Dragons are as unequaled in strength as they are in wisdom.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
As their name would suggest, they are completely white. A color pure and unblemished, as white as a newly washed pearl.   Besides their coloring and size, the only other way to distinguish them physically from other dragons is the deep, blood red jewel embedded within their foreheads. It is the mark of the White Dragons and all of their race bear one. The brighter the jewel the older the dragon and thus, the wiser.
The White Dragons are the wisest creatures on Earth. We Mortals would show a considerable amount of intelligence ourselves if we deserted our foolish pride and listened to what they have to tell us.   - Sir Averius Melcoth The Meeting of Perrigon

WOOT! This was a great article to read! A good primer to a race in your world which is good but has far... far more potential to become better. Lets get into how you could format and make this article better as well as some questions!   First off, use some more quotes, headers and some pieces of prose or something like that to beautify this article! Maybe make a person narrate about the White dragons, telling the story to their children or a bartender or bard talking about them. It would really help to beautify this article! Though if you are going for the more scientific and technical route and/or they are"ent that much important in you world, its also completely fine! You could also write a bit more about the history of this species, how they came to this world and how they ruled. What were those times like and who else existed alongside the dragons? What was their relationships with the other races?   The last question would be, how did they get wiped out from this world? Was it some sort of war against the mortals or something else? My advice might sound extremely dumb and if it isn't helpful, feel free to ignore it! But i hope that i could do at least something. Congratulations and keep up the great work!

Hey, thanks so much for the advice ! I really, really appreciate it! :) None of your advice sounded dumb.   Elthir is the fictional world for a fantasy novel I'm writing. As I began writing my novel, I had tons of knowledge about the plot and characters and the theme but as for the world itself, unfortunately, I was lost. I mean I had bits and pieces; random ideas floating around, but nothing really concrete. That's why I joined World Anvil, hoping it would help me form something out of the mess in my head. So to be honest, a lot of the stuff I wrote on here was made up as I went along. This article is a perfect example of that...I sort of just made up the story as I went along. :/ I've been thinking and thinking and trying to come up answers to all the questions concerning my world (the dragons in particular) but it's all coming along very slowly. That's why this article is so...well, shallow. I don't actually know much about the dragons, therefore I don't have much to write.   Hopefully, as things come together I'll have more to add to this. Your questions have been very helpful and got me thinking in new ways. Thanks!
