Raven
He's a mysterious man who has been sighted creeping through the streets of Wensley, doing secret acts of kindness and goodwill. They don't know much more than that.
"Raven" they call him, on account of all the black he wears. Cloak, hood, mask, all as black as night.
No one has seen him face to face. There have only been glimpses, flashes of color, the sound of running feet, the ruffle of a cloak swirling in the wind. No one has ever seen him for a more than a minute or two. And even then, they see very little. For he is always masked and cloaked, his face concealed in the depths of a deep cowl, his identity hidden.
No one knows who he is. Or where he came from.
All they know, is that one day he came, seeming to appear out of the mist and ever since his arrival, the town has been blessed.
They believe him to be some sort of god come to favor them with goodness and love.
Perhaps he is.
Perhaps...he isn't.

Personal history
"Raven" was first sighted on a dark, stormy night during the last days of the summer harvest. Some fisherman, mooring their boats for the night, spotted a figure slinking up the beach head, towards the village. Curious, they had followed, but lost sight of him after he entered Wensley.
The fisherman did not speak of what they had seen, thinking it must have been one of the villagers. Two months passed before he was seen again.
Fall had settled into the town and the air was chill with the foretaste of winter. A poor factory girl was walking home from her employers residence when she was set upon by a group of young men, who assaulted and threatened her. Suddenly, a black figure darted out from the shadows. He gripped a large sword in his hand and with a shout, he bore down upon the men, who fled in terror. When the girl, who had been shoved to the ground, looked up, the man was gone. There were several witnesses to testified to this story, claiming that the girl's account was true.
Several days later, a large sum of money was stolen from the official treasury. That same night, three witness saw a black figure walking around the building where the treasury was held. When morning came, the money had reappeared.
The people began to grow curious. Who was this person or thing? And why had he come here to the little forgotten island of Elyria? They began to call him "Raven" on account of his black clothes.
Weeks passed away before he was seen again. This time he was seen by many, and there are few who doubt this story of his appearance. It happened during the trial of a pickpocket. The boy had been caught stealing and was now facing a death sentence. He was to be hung by the gallows in the afternoon. Everything went as planned; the lad was calm and quiet, allowing the noose to be slipped over his head without resistance. The crowds became hushed as the rope was pulled and the boy lifted from the ground. Then, to the amazement of everyone present, there was a flash, and the convicted boy fell to the platform...alive.
And then all the people saw him. Raven.
Dressed in black from head to toe and wearing a large black mask, Raven was standing on the platform beside the boy. In an instant, before anyone had time to react, the boy was in Raven's arms, being carried down the steps to the ground. And that's when the villagers saw them.
Two other figures. Dressed in black, just like Raven. Wearing black masks. They appeared out of the shadows and closing around the boy and Raven, disappeared into the woods.
None of them were ever seen again.
It was all the villagers talked about for weeks. Curiosity peaked and some of the braver men of the village set out to search the island, to see if they could find these mysterious men in black. They returned with no more knowledge than they had left with.
Slowly, over time, the minds of the villagers turned to other things. "Raven" was forgotten. The men in black didn't return.
Peace settled over the village once more.
All was as it had been.
