Leal's Avis Item in Elotia | World Anvil

Leal's Avis

Leal's Avis is a lost artifact that, according to pre-VL records, could be used by non-Godlings to dispel Godling Curses/magical storms and otherwise disrupt magic beyond normal capabilities. Over the years, lore has built around Leal's Avis to claim that it could be used to re-craft the skies above and dismantle the Godling Eyes and the Respites. It is, however, impossible to verify any of these claims as Leal's Avis was lost before the disappearance of Vetra, in some forgotten place (potentially the rumoured city of Respite).

History

Leal's Avis is said to have been created by Leal, one of the earliest Godlings of Elotia. Leal took up a semi-permanent residence among the lands that would come to be known as Leaait in an apparent attempt to distance themsevles from other Godlings. Leal existed there for many passings and eochs before their "home" was subjected to the unintended and wild whims of other Godlings battling over land, water, and everything else that shadow and magic provided. Specifically, it is said that the home that Leal had made for themselves was badly damaged by a magical storm created by Denwa during a prolonged fight with Tdska.   While Leal was largely regarded as a calm and solemn godling, the careless damage of their home brought their anger to the forefront and they poured their anger in creating their Avis. While no records provide a first-hand description of the Avis, some records claim that the Avis resembled a thick and angled cactus thorn that could be thrown at great speed and over great distances. When the avis would come in contact with a magical storm, it would burrow to the centre and absorb the power of the storm before returning to Leal, who could then either dispel the magic or throw the avis at another godling to inflict great wounds.   While Leal stayed in the lands that are now Leaait with their avis, the shattering of Leaait sundered the place that they were rumoured to live. Some faith groups claim that the avis was the cause of the sundering, having absorbed a collection of godling power so unrivalled that it caused the avis to explode, rupturing Leaait forever. Others speculate that Leal destroyed Leaait themselves, trying to segragate their home from the rest of Elotia and thus increase their chance of peace and seclusion. Yet others still claim that another Godling captured the avis after it was thrown by Leal and used it back at Leal, destroying their very being and causing the cataclysm that destroyed a swatch of Leaait.
