Isleir

Isleir is a ceramic-like material made by the Eyar on the Splitstone Islands that is one of their key trading commodities. Isleir is dominantly made on Brot Island, the second largest of the islands and home to a small industrial complex known as Bygleir. Bygleir is the main factory where Isleir is made, in its raw form, before being distributed to a wide network of artisans throughout Brot (and the other islands) for use as a building material for homes, pottery, and other items such as weapons.
Isleir is created through a process which includes melting blue-white quartz, mixing it with sand, and using magic to combined this new mixture with ice taken from the flows present in the Broken Sea. This process thus requires both those skilled with forges and ore materials as well as trained magic wielders who understand the properties of the ice present in the far north. Though Bygleir currently has a workforce of around 100 individuals, growing the workforce (or indeed maintaining its size) is difficult as it takes years to properly train an ice wielder for this work and the people of the Splitstone Islands, especially Brot, are well-spread out throughout the islands. 
The isleir material, once blended properly, becomes a moldable material once heated over a regular flame for 2-3 minutes. However, those artisans who worked with the material benefit from some basic magic knowledge as the material can behave unpredictably if any impurities are mixed into the material (which is not uncommon). When used correctly, the material can be made into bricks or shingles for homes, providing significant strength and rigidity while also benefiting from decent insulation properties due to the constant draw of cold air into the material from the air around it. For the same reason, isleir makes good pottery, especially cold liquid containers, and it is highly sought-after by those with money and without significant magical abilities (or the desire to employ magic wielders). As a weapon material, isleir is less common, but it provides enhanced cold damage.
