Bradpein Shelf Myth in Elotia | World Anvil

Bradpein Shelf

The myths and stories surrounding the Bradpein Shelf were nearly ethereal, fading in and out of history and time like the ebb and flow of the ocean currents. While two particular myths about the Bradpein Shelf were known within the Borean nations, the Shelf had been renamed in the stories, masking what and where it was.   According to these legends, the Bradpein Shelf was home to several nations of bird and stone-like creatures who lived peacefully with each other. They did not, however, live as peacefully with their neighbours who lived in the ocean and who considered their waters sacred. After many diplomatic feuds, largely caused by the stone or bird people bathing in the sacred waters or capturing fish out of those waters, their ocean neighbours sent an ultimatum asking them to respect their sacred space and find other waters to use for their purposes. Instead, the bird and rock people banded together and devised a plan to try to boil the ocean and kill, or at least shoo away, their ocean neighbours. The plan relied on the use of strong magics, lightning, and the dropping of a large metal stone into the ocean over their neighbour's main city. When the day to enact their plan came, and as their magic wielders called forth a powerful storm and dropped the metal ball into the water, their ocean neighbours froze the water, suspending the ball on the surface. Rather than dropping into the depths and radiating energy outwards, the energy in the ball continued to build out of control until it detonated, killing many magic wielders on all sides and causing a massive tidal wave that sank the Bradpein Shelf, destroying all three nations in the process.
