Atafain Organization in Elotia | World Anvil

Atafain (Ah-tah-fane)

The Atafain are a group of influential tradesman, merchants, smiths, and other creators who are united under their goal to create magical and physical objects that have never before been created in Elotia.

Structure

The atafain is a loose organization, with no formal charter or other founding documents. Instead, the atafain meet on regular ocassions in various meeting places to discuss their ongoing works, thoughts, ideas, and challenges.

Culture

Those who consider themselves to be members of the atafain often perceive the rest of Daendar as limited, slow, and stuck in a comfortable present that doesn't reflect the mobile nature of their Zagash ancestors. Instead, members of the atafain channel their desire for change and motion into their work, attempting to create new things and push the envelope for what is possible. The atafain are not afraid of destroying something to try and create something new, nor are they afraid of failure. The atafain believe that all motion forward is positive and that their control of how their creations are used should be limited, so as to allow for further expansion.   Daendish citizens who are not atafain (which is to say, most Daendish citizens) often consider members of the atafain to be either eccentric and strange or visionaries and renegades.

History

The atafain was "founded" (such as it is) by some of the builders, smiths, masons, engineers, and others who were tasked with creating a non-magical transportation system that could allow Daendish citizens to traverse the Onomuk Mountains in relative safety. Those who were part of the team who pushed for more radical ideas began to meet outside of the main team, setting the foundation for continued meetings of these like minded folks that would eventually come to be known as atafain. Despite the relative complexity or puzzling nature of some atafain creations, the initial atafain team came up with the concept for the Loom during one of these offsite meetings and brought the idea back to the primary team for further consideration, and eventual construction.
