Meta: Jarissa Wants to Clone a Pin

This has nothing to do with The Bows of Purgatory Gulch!   Well that's not true. It has a LOT to do with things I learned while making Bows of Purgatory Gulch.   I made a Suggestion for World Anvil's Maps. I'll copy its text below.   Cheerful discussion is welcome here, for or against -- and if someone wants to make a Reddit conversation thread for it, that's fine by me.

This suggestion would be for Project Atlas as described in the World Anvil Roadmap (April 2021 Edition).

Summary:

On the Markers list view, I want a "Clone Pin" button that brings me directly into the Edit Marker window for a duplicate of the selected existing Pin -- except that the duplicate's Location has reset to the starting point, whether that's "exact center of map" or it's 0,0,0 in the corner. I want to have all options set the same such as tags and draggability, and most of all I want it to use the same marker type, title, description, connections to existing articles or maps, and Marker Group.

Examples of usage:

Suppose that a map includes some pins -- whether or not they will be "draggable" -- that are going to be identical or nearly identical.

Example one:

Alfredo House cellar
Is that carpet a real Zaragamba?
The entrance from outside is at the bottom of this map. Entrance to stairwell is on the north side, but the stairwell is mostly open to the cellar on either side until one step before the upper landing. Above this set of stairs are more stairs. The space below the stairs is reinforced with sturdy pillars, but has plenty of open space to allow a view from the desk chair all the way across the room.
This cellar is brightly light at most times, not only for use as a study for ranch finances but also because the Alfredo House furnace is down here.
To the right upon entry into the cellar, a Special Accommodation Guest Room is lit by a small Continual Light lantern set into the rear wall of the Guest Room. Privacy can be provided by the large floor-to-ceiling curtains, but of course since those are currently tied open, it is readily apparent that no Special Guest occupies that Guest Room at this moment.

has a Marker Group called "lights" which will show some pins with Flat White Stars, the same text descriptions in their pop-up balloons, membership in the same Marker Group, and would hypothetically all link to the same article(s) and have the same tag(s). The pins' titles are all variations on "Continual Light wall lamp".   I wish I could have made a single pin with the attiributes I wanted, then hit a "Clone Pin" button and arrived at an "Edit Marker" window for a duplicate pin with the same attributes, but located at the default position of either center of map or else (0,0)

Example two:

This example comes with a few warnings:
  • In the Marker Groups, please turn off "Jesse's Fog Cloud" and do not turn on "pins we probably don't need", as they will blot out most of the map beneath.
  •
  • This map has a LOT going on in Marker Groups right now! It might get confusing.
  •
  • Several of the markers reference animals that died by violence. I know that some people need advance warning. No actual graphic images are involved, but you might find some text descriptions if you poke around at the pins.
That said:   Our party is currently adventuring on Sarsparilla Ranch, and will probably conclude the campaign here.
Sarsparilla

Sarsparilla Barn, the attached Bunkhouse, the ruins of the former ranch house, and immediately surrounding environs.

The spot near the northeastern barn door where the physical form of the Cloven Prince melted, that is a spot where nothing will ever grow -- not even worms, not even flies. The dirt from that spot will never be good for any life, neither!

Some other areas continue to show signs of fast plant decay. It will take many years for the residue of a druidic plant growth region followed by an infernal Greater Curse will work out of the soil. It will take almost as long for that persistent slime on the northwest face of the Bunkhouse roof to completely dry up and vanish, too!

This map originally had 15 pins in the "baa!" Marker Group. They were all named sequentially, "baa 001" through "baa 015". They all used the same "Danger, Grey" pin type. They all linked to the same species article. They were all Draggable. They were originally clumped in two relatively small areas of the map.   Also this map originally had 10 pins in the "moo!" Marker Group. They were all named sequentially, "moo 001" through "moo 010". They all used the same "Square, Black" pin type. They all linked to the same species article. They were all Draggable. They were originally all in two separate clumps on the map, not much more spread out than the "baa!" set.   Furthermore, this map has 13 pins (all the same except for names) in the "Some William Tell Overture!" Marker Group plus another 15 pins (all the same except for names) in the "A Little Good, A Little Bad, and Something in Between" Marker Group.   Doing the same thing over and over again for two days makes a GM cranky. Cranky GMs do not have the energy left over to add more pins for nifty tools or treasure or allies or environmental descriptors that the Players or the audience might enjoy.   I wish that I could have made one pin for the "moo!" group, clicked a button to Clone Pin and made only the two adjustments of a location change up at the top of the browser window and then a number change in the Title bar, hit "save" and then repeated until I had enough Hell Cows.   By the time I made all the pins for the enemies' minions, I might have still had time and patience enough to add pins for ranchers' equipment left near the bunkhouse -- and some corral posts, one of which would have turned out to be "Wirt's Leg", and maybe had running through the grass a Miniature Giant Space Hamster or a kindly vampire bunny to possibly help the party out once the Cabbages arrive.
