Aurora Town

A small town in the desert island of Aurora .

Demographics

The population is composed with humans, most of them are dark or brown skinned.

Government

The town elects a mayor every 4 years, who rules the general population. But the 3 guilds formed by the population: the merchant's guild, the gatherer's guild and the fisherman's guild hold some power.

Defences

There are old stone walls surrounding the town. The town resides on a beach, but the docks are unprotected. A small gate leads into the desert.

Industry & Trade

The town trades on three things:
  • Manual Craft:
  • products, like carpets and clothing, produced within the town. These are usually very colorful and appropriate both for very warm or cold climates.
  • Fish. Whatever is fished on the sea is usually also sold either by the docks (as soon as the ships get back) or in the bazaar where they can conserve the food for longer.
  • Herbs and fruits found in the desert.
  • The children of the village usually explore the desert in the vicinity for their parents, though some professional gatherers who go farther also do exist. These bring back medicinal herbs and fruits used in medicine.

Infrastructure

The town is mostly constructed with buildings that already existed before the current population moved in, and the current population's ancestors just occupied them. Some new buildings were built here, but they differ in structure from the old ones.   The dock is entirely new.

Assets

The temple can provide basic cleric services, being able to cast common 1st level cleric spells for a price. it is run by a priest named Wian (human, male, around 60 years old).

The Inn is ran by a woman named Yolandi. The characters can stay here for the price of 5 sp per day.

The docks

The docks are mostly used by fisherman, but the characters can purchase fish here, should they want to stock on rations.

The City Office

The city office doubles down as a prefecture and main guard office. As this is a peaceful town, there are only three guards. There are some cells should the characters wish to hold (or become themselves) prisoners.   The city does not keep prisoners here for long, as they are shipped to bigger islands due to the lack of infrastructure.   Mayor. History

The town of Aurora was founded to be a port for the main city in the East of the Island, which has since fallen into ruin. Since the old people vanished, the town has been abandoned. Some 800 years ago, though, a small group of settlers came and inhabited the town.   They repaired some of the buildings, built new ones and built small ships which they began to use to fish. Thus the town prospered until it got to the point where it is today.

Architecture

Most buildings are made of huge blocks of stone, with an ancient method of construction that has since become unknown. These buildings also sometimes have snake motifs on them, showing either statues of snakes or of people venerating snakes. They are unpainted on the outside, but used to the painted on the inside. At some places the painting has been since restored, as in the Inn.   Newer buildings are made of adobe and have a simpler, square architecture (forming small houses).

Geography

Most of the terrain is plain, and the town is situated near the sea.

Natural Resources

There's a small oasis with pure water inside the town, and the subsoil has good water. The sea is rich on fish, and the desert is the source of both medicinal herbs and tiny animals.
