Birth & Baptismal Rites

At birth, the baby is exposed to the wind, and the tribe calls for a sign. People hear the wind to try to discern what the future of this child will be. Only after this rite is the child given a name.

Coming of Age Rites

When they reach the age of 16, an Air genasi is stripped of all of his and her possessions and ordered a task, which the person needs to fulfill or die trying. Such a task normally consists of climbing to the highest peak of the highest mountain, hearing the wind there, and coming back to tell the tribe about what was heard. After the task is completed, the person is dressed in ceremonial robes, and a great feast is held to commemorate a new person joining their community.

Historical figures

Sky. Sky was a boy who when he was seven, he insisted on suddenly undergoing the coming of age trial. His tribe tried to impose resistance, but the boy is resolute and the laws are firm: so they had to allow it. To the surprise of all, the boy passed the trial and became the youngest person of all time to be considered a full person. However, during his welcome party, Sky vanished, still in his ceremony clothes.   What happened to the boy after that is unknown. But several air genasi stories tell of people who were facing a great challenge that they couldn't overcome. As this happened, they saw a boy dressed in ceremonial clothes who helped them overcome it in some way or another. The boy never revealed his identity, but people tend to attribute such acts to Sky, even though such histories have been happening for centuries.
