Night of Sorrows

"First famines. Then plagues. Then handing over power to a tyrannical duo who only wanted to eradicate those who opposed him and those who didn't like. Perhaps it was the biggest mistake on behalf of the Imperium on managing inter-state affairs"   Yazd Harmani, a Dasatirian talking about the Night of Sorrows
The Night of Sorrows was one of the few rebellions that was faced by the Sanguine Imperium, though whether it was a rebellion or not is still a point of debate for many. Caused by many factors including a famine, a plague and lastly and most significantly, handing power to a duo who would become some of the most nightmarish figures in the Imperium. Ardeshir and Shahriar Vatir had used their powers to ravage the entire Dasatir plateau, mercilessly butchering every human being who did not swear allegiance to them and their hideous ways   Initially, the Imperium used local forces alongside some reinforcments from the other kingdoms to try to quell the rebellion. When that failed miserably, they sent in heavily armed and trained forces from the other kingdoms as well but even that failed to put an end to the rebellion   The doom for the two brothers would come eventually when a part of their own army somehow managed to break free from the control of the brothers. They seized this oppurtunity to assassinate the brothers and in conjunction with the wider Imperium, take back the Dasatir plateau. In a final attempt to keep the homelands of the Dasatirians for themselves, the brothers morphed into giant demonic beasts which were slain by the leader of the counter rebellion, though at the cost of his own life   The rebellion cost the Imperium incredibly, both on the economic and the social side. But perhaps most of all, it brought on sweeping reforms to appoint better suited people to high positions and also limit their powers. It was completely unexpected, and the Imperium took prompt measures to ensure that something like this never happened again
