Rock Drake
The Rock Drake is by far the lesser iteration of the mighty Dragon. Where the Dragon glides, the Drake plods. Where the Dragon roars, the Drake growls. Lucky for the Drake that they've become so large, else they would have perished long ago.Eleroth Draconis, Warlock and Historian
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Atreian Rock Drake is a degenerate version of the Greater Eleric Dragon. They are the Dragons that migrated south when the Long Winter came, moving out of the rapidly freezing Northlands into the slightly warmer lands in Light Atreius.
This led them to lose their ability to freeze the air around them, as the air was too warm to freeze, so they had to adapt otherwise. The adatation they made was, they got bigger. Much bigger.
Rock Drakes are at smallest four times the size of a Greater Dragon, making them about the size of a whale, and that is, pretty much what they hunt. They have taken up residence in the cliffs on the coast of the Crystal Sea, as this land is similar to their traditional mountain homes.
They lack the hard scales of Greater Dragons, instead being covered in leathery hide all over. Their wings are proportionally smaller compared to Greater Dragons, but they extend further down their back, more like bat wings that grow out of the Drakes' back as opposed to pivotable wings on ball joints. This means the Drakes are more suited to gliding as opposed to true flight, although they can achieve this, just not to the same level as Greater Dragons.
Ecology and Habitats
Rock Drakes live in sandstone cliffs, on the coast of the Crystal Sea. They can occasionally be found as far south as the Untamed Strait, although this is a rarity, as they generally find it too warm there.
They hunt whales, and large fish, as well as occasionally venturing inland and grazing on livestock.
They can swim in the water of the Crystal Sea, and some have adapted to live primarily underwater, foregoing their wings for smaller, flipper-like apendages.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Rock Drakes rarely open their inner eyelids and expose their sensitive eyes, and therefore they are as good as blind. They rely on their strong senses of hearing and smell to get around this disability.
