The Graven Image of Nocturna

"A most unholy of relics. This woman is an abomination, a vampire who ascended to godhood. These icons must be destroyed whenever you find them and the owner with it, for they hold vampirism as a holy state to attain rather than an blaspheme to be destroyed."
This graven image is of a young woman sitting upon a flat surface, cradling a crescent moon in her arms to her chest with her eyes closed, as if in a peaceful slumber. A stain is present in the corner of the mouth, symbolizing the blood drunk by a vampire.

History

The first graven image to exist of Nocturna is a full sized statue of the goddess. It was made by embalming the corpse of Nocturna in a thin layer of clay, then filling in the statue as her body decomposed. The statue was erected in the lobby of a massive temple dedicated to her, where her followers lured the injured and infirm for treatment to be drained slowly of their humors. The statue was moved shortly after the hospital was exposed and before it was destroyed.   Following the destruction of the hospital, Nocturna's followers scattered to the winds. Small statues of her were carved to be worshipped and praised and identify each other. The figurine is often confused as a depiction of the disciple of Myrada, Lunara, and can sometimes be found being sold commercially in ports or large cities.

Significance

The original statue serves as a symbol of hope for those afflicted with vampirism, that they can aspire to still be good people and do good in the world. However, to the majority of the world, it is merely an idol of a false god designed to be a beacon to abominations and foul beings.
