The Children of Averas (The Chilled-ren of Ah-Ver-Ah-s)
Not to be confused with the Children of Amynd, the Children of Averas have embraced the extreme end of the God of Death, believing him to be an evil being who wishes to end all life on the world. Their actions outlawed the worship of Amynd, relegating the god to a false deity in the annals of history.
Structure
The cult operates like a pyramid. The 'Eldest Son' leads the flock. He has two direct underlings referred to as 'The Twins'. Each of The Twins has three underlings each called 'Elder Siblings'. The Elder siblings have four 'Voices of the Children' beneath them. The bottom most rung of the pyramid consists of the Children. The Children mimic this parent structure, having an elder sibling appointed by one of the Voices to lead a small congregation, who then appoint their own two direct subordinates.
The Eldest is said to be in direct Communication with Averas. All orders and sermons come from him, passed on to the Twins, who pass on his orders to their Voices and manage the minutae of planning the cult's actions and evaluating new members. The Voices relay the words of the Eldest and The Twins to the smaller sects of the organizations, planning which cells take which parts of a mission or sermon as well as managing the cells within their sphere of influence. Each cell leader is in charge of prostelatizing to their cell as well as preparing them for missions and new members, dolling out responsibilities to their aides accordingly.
History
The Children of Averas splintered away from the Children of Amynd long ago as mass casualties swept the lands. They believed the disasters were the death god's anger and attempts to wipe life out on the face of the world, the actions of a malevolent being displeased with his followers and their messages. The splinter disappeared for some time, hiding like a cancer in society as they grew their numbers. They sought out killers for their numbers as well as children born with the blessing of the Death Seer.
As their numbers grew, they began to practice sacrificial rituals to praise Averas and earn his blessings. Eventually, they began to proselytize in public, striking fear into the masses while drawing new members to their folds. Massacres in Averas' name drew the attention of Saint Helena Dorma. The crusade led by her thinned the numbers of The Children of Averas and Amynd alike, the public no longer seeing a difference between the two. The crusade was thought to have eradicated both sects of the religion, but the Children of Averas persevered, remaining in the shadows to continue their work, growing slowly over time.
