Player Race - Humans

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humans are the standard for judging a race to be "Humanoid". They stand upright on two legs with flat feet, two arms, two hands, five digits on hands and feet, and opposable thumbs on their hands. Humans have two eyes, a nose, a mouth, and two short rounded ears. Hair covers most of their bodies, primarily short fine hairs that are unnoticeable to the naked eye, though some humans have more visible hair on their arms, legs, and torso. Their hair is thicker on top of their heads, above their eyes, and covering their genitalia.   Males and females show a sexual dimorphism within the species. Females tend to have narrower shoulders, wider hips, and rounder faces. Males have wider shoulders, narrower hips, sharper faces, darker body hair, and can grow thicker hair on their faces. Further differences can be found in their muscular skeletal structure and senses. Males possess a more pronounced and thicker laryngeal cover in the throat, thicker muscles, longer limbs, larger lungs, larger heart muscles, and more blood volume.  Females, on the other hand, have less pronounced laryngeal covers, smaller muscle mass, tend to be shorter than males, have a stronger immune system, and sharper senses.

Genetics and Reproduction

Humans reproduce sexually, the female carrying on average a single offspring for approximately 280 days. Humans give birth to live young, which is assigned the sex of male or female at birth based on the genitalia. The most recorded children born to a human woman in a single pregnancy is four.

Growth Rate & Stages

Humans experience few distinct growth stages:   Infant Infants range from birth to one year old. During this period human offspring are vulnerable and communicate through basic cries. They are completely reliant on their parents and other adults for survival.   Toddler Toddlers range from one to three years old. Toddlers are still vulnerable, but are becoming more mobile and vocal. They are still reliant on parents and those around them for survival, but are beginning to learn crucial skills as well as growing into their bodies more.   Child Children range from three to ten years old. They are becoming more independent and gradually becoming individuals with their own likes and personalities. They are learning to communicate and contribute to the household.   Adolescence Adolescence ranges from ten to sixteen years old. They are capable of near complete independence and have their own individuality at this point. They are beginning to reach their developmental crux and soon considered adults.   Adult Adults range from 16 to death, but the final stage of development can be broken into further stages. Middle age is reached at 35. Old age is reached at 50. Venerable age is reached at 70. As age progresses, hair color is lost, skin elasticity and durability is lost, hair thins, muscle mass may be lost, etc.

Ecology and Habitats

Humans are a unique species that adapts the environment to them, rather than they to the environment. Be it Desert, forest, or mountains; humans claim anything as their habitat.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Humans are an omnivorous species, eating both animal and plant. Humans will hunt and gather their food from their environments, but also capture and breed their chosen chattel and plants. Humans will store their food through various means, such as fermentation, dehydration, and freezing/cooling where they are able to either magically or naturally.

Biological Cycle

As time goes by, humans grow in height. Between the ages of ten and sixteen they begin to develop their sexual characteristics. They reach peak height at sixteen or seventeen years.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Humans have a moderate hearing range of 20 decibels to 20,000 decibels. Humans see color within the Visible Light Spectrum. Humans are rarely born with the innate ability to sense and perform magic, but the senses can be trained to pick them up. Those born with it are capable of sensing the elemental energy surrounding them so long as it is to their attunement. For example, a human with an attunement of fire can sense how much fire energy is around them.

Civilization and Culture

History

Humans are the second oldest sapient race on the planet. A primitive form of humanity was first discovered in Berdea by dragon kind toward the end of the Reign of Scales. Dragons reacted to humanity in a myriad of ways, including studying them, taking them as pets, nurturing them, ignoring them, and exploiting them. Interference with human kind reached it's peak during the Dragon Wars. The human race as a whole took heavy losses during the Dragon wars, used as front line fodder by several clans. It was during the Dragon Wars that human tribes were scattered across the lands by clans that had vowed to protect them.     From that point, humans began to evolve into divergent races. Tribes untouched by the gods, left to adapt and fend for themselves on other continents thrived or perished under the conditions they been thrown into. Millenia passed, leaving them to evolve and grow. Humans once again faced hardship when Orcs began to pillage the lands, taking slaves from budding tribes and societies. This forced some groups further inland to avoid the sea dwelling orcs. Being further inland presented their own dangers as well. Fae of the wilds met humans with mixed reactions. High Fae used humans as slaves and entertainment. Low Fae began to interfere with human tribes, teaching them and helping them grow. Low Fae stuck by their human companions, enlisting dwarves to assist in retrieving stolen humans from Orcs.    A century long war between Elf, Dwarf, and Orc waged over the fate of humans. The war came to a swift end when Magmus began to ravage the land. A treaty of necessity was made, freeing many of the taken slaves, but not those born in captivitiy. Once the Magmus were turned back to their calderon by the unified forces, large swathes of Low Fae left their own society to live as shepherds of humanity, protecting them from their kin and threats of Orcs. Humanity began to form their own societies, some under the guidance and example of the Low Fae, now called Elves; while others found peace among tribes of orcs or on their own.   Human kingdoms began to be established, their own cultures and ways growing as the race did. Once brought to near extinction, the human race began to thrive. They have now found their place among the world with their cousins as equals.

Humans at one point were under threat of becoming extinct. During the dragon war, early humans were caught in the cross fire between Dwarves and Dragons. Some factions of Dragons conscripted or held humans hostage, using them as front line fodder to escape or distract dwarven armies. Humans rescued by Dwarves from these situations were freed or sheltered within the underground fortresses.   Following the conclusion of the Dragon War, Humanity began to splinter off and evolve through direct or indirect influence of deities and other races. La'Lorna and Ifira played direct roles in the evolution of Magmus, Orcs, and Merfolk. Humans went through a period of further strife once their cousins evolved, including slavery and genocide through races that believed themselves to be superior. Through concentrated efforts of Elves, Dwarves, and Fae protecting, teaching, and nurturing them; the Human race has bounced back from the brink of extinction to thrive on Eldris.
