Appointment of the Royal Guard

History

The tradition of appointing a new member of the Royal Guard dates back before the establishment of Agaland from Gyrmania, originating in the magic focused nation. Little has changed between the two nations since it's inception, both having a history of clinging to tradition despite several attempts of various rulers to break certain traditions.

Execution

The appointment of a Royal Guard is one of celebration and fanfare, a reward for the hard work and trustworthiness of a member of the guard or law enforcement within the nation, designed to bolster the moral of soldiers and the people.   The ritual begins with a parade through the capitol city, displaying the nation's finest in all their glory. The royal court rides at the center of the parade, with the royal family at the very center, surrounded by their royal guard. The guard or guards being celebrated ride closest to the royal family.   At the conclusion of the parade, the King and Queen gives a speech, highlighting the qualifications and accomplishments of the new guards. At the end of the speeches, the Guards are anointed by touching a relic to each shoulder, and proclaimed to their new positions. A feast is then held in the town center for the citizenry and another inside the castle for the nobility.

Components and tools

For Gyrmania, a rod is used in the anointment, for Agaland, a sword is used.

Participants

The royal family, nobility, and guards are key participants. But there is nothing to show off if the citizenry were not present, and thus, the citizenry are the most important participants of this ceremony.

Observance

The ceremony occurs whenever a new guard or group of guards is added to the roster, which is rare. The appointment is for life, leaving only retirement and death opening positions.
