The Purification

Furious with the magical usurpers who once served her, the Queen of Greyfell outlawed all use of magic by punishment of death by beheading. She claimed the magic users were a tainted people, who's existence could only lead to the extinction of the non-magical majority. Citizens were skeptical, however their fears were reinforced by propaganda and continued losses of their fathers, brothers, and sons in the conflict. The Purification as it began to be referred to as, continues to this day. This lead to the current alliances of the "Non-Magicfolk" consisting of the Humans, Halflings, and Half-Orcs, the "Magicfolk" consisting of Elves, Gnomes, Tieflings, and the reclusive Firbolg people, and unaligned who remained neutral throughout the conflict. This included Dwarves whose focus on trade and mining kept them apart from picking sides as it always better to sell to whoever has the gold which only fueled the fires of war. Half-Elves, who were torn between their progenitors, the Goliaths of the the high mountains who cared not for the politics and wars of other peoples, and the Dragonborn, who's draconian society merely enjoyed watching the mammalian races wipe each other out while they focused on their own goals.
