Aasim of Myrdthauen

Herold of Lirini

Aasim of Myrdthauen is one of the Golden Paladins of the Gods and the only Herold of the goddess Lirini ever to appear in the nation of Caramiza. In life, he was an exceptionally talented musician and diplomat who helped start a new culture and understanding of the arts in the world.   He was the fifth herald of the gods, with his eventual ascension being prophesized by the Herold before him. His final prophecy in the year 1645 did prophesize the coming of his eventual successor, the herald of Gazezu, but the event was cut short by his sudden murder.

Early Life

Aasim was born in 1614 as the first son of a relatively influential merchant family in the area of Bealuki. To the shame of his parents he was born deaf and after the birth of his brother was displaced as the heir to his family's possessions.   Despite that, Aasim was taught by a friend of his father's, Tholin Graufeyn, a priest of Lirini. He showed a high skill in reading and mathematics, and to the surprise of many, he was able to learn several instruments. Eventually, he was properly educated in musical arts - quickly becoming a curiosity in the society, which was sought to play on social events regularly.

Special Skills

All Purpose Instrument Creation

Aasim was able to make an instrument out of literally everything. He once was able to hold a concert with the utensils available in a washroom - including the washing board, a bucket, multiple highly strung towels and the favorite napkin of his host.   His favorite instrument apparently was a rock with a set of hollow wooden pipes.

Wordless Storytelling

Even though Aasim never sung and rarely spoke, he was able to convey detailed and fantastic stories to his audience. With well-placed words, visualizations, some odd tricks with smoke and some kind of telepathic magic he enriched his music to a level no one had experienced ever before. In later days, a group of close friends and followers would supply the required visualizations or more conventionally read out the story to the music.

Ascending to a herald

A man who knows no sound but will keep the wonders of music in his heart will be my herald, once he swayed the hearts of the masses.
— Prophecy about the ascension of Lirini's Herold
During the 1630s the regents started to organize larger shows for artists in a way to entertain the population. Aasim happend to be invited to play in the town of Bealuki, at the Songplaza for every citizen of the town. The whole festival, which inlcuded multiple artists, was announced a year beforehand and actually cause many people to travel to the city.   Due to an unfortunate turn of events, a large fight and panic broke out in the large, unmanageable crowd. Aasim, apparently unaware of this, started to play his performance, which immediately had a calming effect on the frantic citizens. As Aasim continued to play, he began to glow in a golden-violet light, his music magically being audible in the entire settlement.   After his performance was finished, he proclaimed to the silent audience, he was the herald of Lirini, here to bring music, peace and fortitude to the people of Caramiza.

Accomplishements as Herald

When finally accepted as a herald, Aasim had an eventful life. Some major achievements are listed here.

Founding the Academy of the Arts to Bealuki

Aasim enjoyed teaching the arts to people following him, and eventually convinced multiple friends to continue on with teaching themselves. They banded together to form the first academy of the arts.

Calming the great beast of Walkust

A giant beast terrorizing the coast of Caramiza was calmed down by Aasim, avoiding further terrible hunts and possibly saving many lives.

Negotiating a Peace Treaty with Knurkang

Aasim's songs were able to sway the hardened and embittered parties and aided the draft and signing of the first actual peace treaty between Caramiza and Knurkang after almost 500 years.

Composing the modern Creation Mythos

Being raised and educated by a priest always gave Aasim deep curiosity about the creation of the world. He eventually composed a new variant of the creation Mythos, the first to include actual conversations between the gods themselves, as supposedly retold by Lirini herself.

Final Prophecy and Death

In 1645 Aasim of Myrdthauen and his group were invited to recite his latest and now legendary epic "Marching of the Light" in front of the political and social elite in Bealuki.
The last Herald will arrive, into a land of anger and steel and smoke. When the lands turn grey and the traditions of men will shackle themselves, the herald of Gazezu will arrive.
But they will not be alone, as the harbinger of Zecod will find their way to the world as well. When the Tears fall red, watch out for when the earth below ...
— Prophecy of the coming of the last herold and the harbínger of zecod
The prophecy was interrupted in the last sentence
His performance was suddenly interrupted from a godly vision and prophecy. Multiple people witnessed how he proclaimed the coming of the last herald as well as an additional seventh herald - the Harbinger of Zecod. Before his prophecy could be finished, however, he was stabbed by a cultist of Zecod on the stage.

Ah good read indeed. Calming the great beast of Walkust and calming the mob are my favorite parts besides that he can make an instrument out of everything. I can hear him mimicing a flute with a piece of cloth. I hope he died the Martyr's death, so his work will outlive his life centuries after. :)

I'm a sucker for stories of people rising above the circumstances of their births and/or childhoods, so that opening really grabbed me. Nice work throughout.

I love that he was deaf and still managed to make beautiful music, especially by making his own instruments out of interesting things. What an interesting life he led. It's a shame he was assassinated, though.
