Syhana Flower

"A flower?"

"Yes," the new mother mused, "it's a beautiful flower. It marks our home, it can bloom year-round, and it grows strong and tall. It's a good namesake."

The father gave a small laugh as his thumb brushed over their child's forehead. "I suppose it is."

Basic Information

Anatomy

Syhanas are four-petaled, white flowers. The petals are broad and soft, and encircle a small pollen rod. The stem of the flower is a dark green, with thick, dark leaves growing from the ground up. They grow to about a foot high and in clusters of two or three growing from entangled roots. It's very rare to see a single syhana flower growing alone.

Growth Rate & Stages

The seeds are small, and are so smooth that they can't be gripped very well. They sprout and grow during summer, making them one of the only flowers to bloom throughout the winter season in Casca. They stay in bloom until they shed their petals a year after they are planted, and regrow them a season later.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They populate only the northwestern region of Ahkna, which happens to be mostly dominated by the Cascan tribal nation. They can be grown in more eastern lands, but they die much more quickly and do not produce many seeds, so they can't propagate without human intervention to keep them going.

Civilization and Culture

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

These flowers are important land markers for people of the Casca region. They only grow in the cool, lush climate in northwest Ahkna, and so indicate cultural grounds and a home for many people. They aren't often picked or harvested, but very few flowers are in Cascan lands. As a respected and honored plant, they grow abundantly and are often cared for by people. They tend to be so important to native Cascans, that they have been the namesakes for more than a few children.
