FAMED ADVENTURER AND STATESMAN ROLAND FIREHEART DIES AT 72

GAMERIA, Gameth - The legendary hero and royal council member Roland Fireheart has died at his estate in Gameria at the age of 72 according to a statement by Queen Astrid  As one of the founding members of the nation's Royal Knights Brigade, an influential member of Queen Astrid's royal council for three decades, and one of the leading generals of the coalition fleet that defeated the Sunken God's sahuagin horde at the Siege of Elwood in 897, Roland Fireheart did more to change Gamerian society in the last half-century than any other person save for Queen Astrid herself. Even the national pastime of fighting pit tournaments can be traced back to Roland's tireless lobbying to turn the seedy fighting rings of Gameria into a legitimate industry.    Born to a wealthy family from the small town of Watchtower near Hakon, tragedy struck Roland early in life when his wife and daughter were killed by his brother Arthur in a terrible fire. Learning that Arthur was part of a secret society known as the Cult of the Undying, he journeyed around the continent with future professor Catriona Quinn and disgraced dictator Aldo Snaggletooth to defeat the cult's leader Valdemar at the Battle of Stockton Keep in 874. A run-in with the lich Fairouz the Undying left him aged and weakened, after which Queen Astrid offered him a position on her royal council.    Roland remarried to sea captain Theron Fireheart in 875, and his daughter Amara was born later that same year. Tragedy struck the Fireheart family once again when Amara died in 896 on a covert mission for the Royal Knights Brigade in the former Elflands Empire, leaving Roland without an hair to carry on the family name.    Following Amara's death Roland threw himself into his work, helping apprehend the cultist Wilbur Whately in Hakon and leading the coalition fleet that led to the defeat of the Sunken God in 897. Roland led the Gamerian delegation at the Treaty of Iverburg in 898, cementing Gameth's status as a global power and stabilizing force in the world.    Roland Fireheart is survived by his wife Cpt. Theron Fireheart, who runs Amara's Orphanage in Gameria's 3rd Level.
"Roland stood as a shining example of strength and perseverance,  even refusing to abandon a fight against a literal god. The world could do well with a hundred paladins like him." - Adventurer Elan Quinn

UNREST GROWS IN HAKON OVER PROPOSED RAILWAY LINE

OFTIN, Gameth - A band of young protesters from Gameth's northern province of Hakon have started protesting the creation of a railway line that would connect the forested city of Oakengaard to the the nation's capital of Gameth. The protests have remained mostly peaceful, but a band of engineers from Ravi were pelted with rotted produce one morning as they tried to survey potential land to use for the rail line.     Inspired by rangers and druids from the conservationist group Knights of Yo-Na, a new generation of Hakonians has grown suspicious of the rapid industrialization underway in the nation's capital. Some inhabitants claim that rampant pollution has made Gameria an unhealthy place to live, and protesters fear that these same industrialization will ruin Hakon's pristine ecosystem.
