GHG Session 48: Monks, Drunks, and Exploding Fish

General Summary

Month 3, Week 1, Year 919
Provided with modest accommodations for the week of the Way of the Range's annual tournament, Zan'kir and the rest of the Fortunate Five started planning which members would be most useful through different portions of the tournament. There were four main games that would test various abilities, the victors obtaining a spot in the one-on-one tournament matches and even a chance to have spellcasting allies support them during the fight. Windred would sit out the other matches to focus on the Astral Fishing competition while Reetma would represent the party during the racing portion of the games, the rest of the party holding their own in drinking games and a game of tug-of-war.    And so the first day of games proved to be an roaring success for the party, the FF easily defeating last year's tournament winners (ie Way of the Hot Ones) while Reetma raced past the competition at supersonic speeds. The party even had Bubbles meet with Jin Wa, a fellow grung with an appreciation for the simpler things in life like caramel hard candies and watching grown men beat each other up. Jin Wa explained to Bubbles the power of the Range's neutral status in the Northern Territories, but he also appeared open to the idea of appearing at Kyoko Hara's international conference if the party could give him some intel on the mysterious series of grung disappearances in Sanjuro City. That night (and every night for the rest of the tournament) Teherse'singh attended screenings of rare cinemalogues from Old Myltev, enjoying such artifacts of Myltevian culture like Pulp Fiction and Scarface.    The party was worried about the King of the Keg matchup against the Way of the Drunk Friars, but the group proved victorious with equal measures of strength, speed, and the fact that several members of the party couldn't get drunk. Conserving her powers over the last couple days, Windred finally pushed her kalashtar abilities to the limit by trying to contact an interplanar entity during the Astral Fishing competition. She was the only one who managed to pierce the Ageless One's Veil and push her consciousness into the Multiverse, her closest competition being a kuo-toa whose head exploded from the psychic stress of the Veil. She found her consciousness roaming through the Outlands, making contact with a herald of the storm god of Taranis named Lugh. This entity appeared to be on a crusade to spread his god's faith to all corners of the multiverse, good thing Ekal's Veil would keep it well-defended from such invaders!   But with four consecutive victories the Fortunate Five were the undisputed winners of the pre-tournament games, their closest competitors being the monks of the Way of the Spooky. The FF could now be represented by two different competitors during the tournament, and a total of three spellcasting allies could be utilized to help their competitors. But each competitor was only allowed a maximum of two allies with no switching out between fights, so some difficult choices would have to be made about party alliances and loyalties. Free from the burden of such decision-making, Ysmyrelda started preparing for her Battle of the Bards performance while Windred suffered the hair loss and killer migraines of piercing the Veil.
