GHG Session 29: Don't Trust Doors

General Summary

Month 13, Week 2, Year 918
Taking time to recharage after a traumatic brawl through the sewers, the Fortunate Five members still standing used the downtime as an opportunity to explore the sewers and carved-out caverns of the Gruumsh's lizardfolk. Beguiler discovered a row of spears and katanas that he started to polish, and Reetma found a corner of the orgy pit to wallow in his overwhelming guilt from the atrocities he'd committed against defenseless commoners during the fight. Once rested up Zan'kiri, Windred, and Ysmyrelda went back up into the sewers to survey the remaining tunnels, discovering the parceled-up body of an elven man from the former Kiri Clan. There weren't any items left on the body to help identify the elf, but with Zan'kiri in the group there'd be plenty of time to interrogate the dead.   Later that day the party decided to hold off on investigating the rest of the lizardfolk lair until after they'd taken a long rest. Windred and Beguiler went above-ground to stock up on potions and random items, meeting up with Samira Kayhane to fill her in on their progress through the dungeons. Samira started to freak out over the prospect of delivering an incomplete report to her boss Kyoko Hara, but Windred reassured her that they'd have something more concrete to provide by the end of the week (ie in the next couple of days). Samira returned home while Beguiler happily munched on a couple of fresh honeycrisp apples.   Back in the lair of the Gruumsh-worshiping lizardfolk, the party kept watch beneath the safety of Zan'kiri's Tiny Hut as they settled in for a long rest. Windred had a heart-to-heart with Reetma, probing his mind to learn more about the spiritual conflict pulling him between Eldath and Gruumsh. She expressed sympathy and convinced Zan'kiri to let Reetma sleep beneath the hut that night, but Windred's probing proved that these problems could only be solved by Reetma alone. Ysmyrelda spent her watch with Beguiler and his collection of disturbing fish, while everybody collectively agreed that Bubbles deserved the longest rest possible.   Echoes of Jezebeth's fate played out beneath the Tiny Hut that night as Zan'kiri loomed over Reetma's unconscious body with a wealth of deadly magic at his fingertips. He decided against killing another Rakkan national, and next day the party continued their exploration of the cultist's lair and the final lizardfolk door requiring 'Blood for Blood'. They turned to Reetma to fulfill the final demand, and while rejecting Gruumsh's savagery he meticulously filled an offering bowl with sacrificial blood. The FF found themselves in a lair that quickly transitioned from Gruumsh-worshiping hellhole into the ruins of an ancient arcane empire. Ys stepped forward to translate the letters inscribed on some ancient stone door on the opposite side of the hallway, only to fall into a fit of hallucinations while her skin turned purple. Powerful arcane magic pulsed behind every closed door of this lair, and before Zan'kiri could explore them all he was attacked by the spirit of some long-dead mage...
