Personal history
Growing up in the lower levels of Gameria, Christopher learned at an early age the art of hustling for a living. At the age of 11 he discovered his affinity for gambling, using his winnings to pay for sailing lessons to become a full-time sailor. The ships he worked on moved cargo as far north as Ichigo and Suika, but most of the routes Christopher worked had him passing through Sardivelian territory. He was nearly arrested in Trecce for racking up enormous gambling debts to Paoli Piedmonte, but he managed to escape in 897 and join the crew of the Castellan II to make as much distance between him and Paoli's reach. Aboard the Castellan II he fought alongside the Royal Knights Brigade for several months as they sailed through Myltev, and at Filip Vikander's Lighthouse he agreed to undergo an experimental 'Reincarnate' spell to be transformed into a hobgoblin. Jax Capaldi was ordered by Paoli to turn Christopher over to Sardivelian officials in Grettir as part of a shady bribery deal, but instead the barbarian fighter helped Christopher escape in the middle of the night. With his new hobgoblin form, Christopher decided that the best place to lay low from Paoli's forces would be Rakka with its large goblinkin population. Working as a dockhand in Qilthani and a crossbow instructor in Rel-Odar, it took several months before Christopher settled into a life as a small-time bounty hunter/monster hunter. He could kill gnolls from thousands of feet away with his impressive marksmanship skills, awarding him just enough money to pay off his gambling debts every week. Hearing about a bounty on a bullywug smuggler hiding out in Rel-Avery, in the fall of 900 he agreed to team up with Rakka's Heroes and help locate their target down in the city's vast sewer system. He made fast friends with the group's goblin paladin Cig, and after apprehending Gorf Sunko he agreed to help the party unravel a devilish conspiracy in Rel-Kadrar. While his time with Rakka's Heroes lasted just ten days, it was a whirlwind ride of galas, heists, and epic showdowns with fiends. He helped Cig and the halfling rogue Seraphina Cedarroost steal Rakkan airship plans for a band of kenkus, and his expert marksmanship skills saved the party in fights with former party member-turned-traitor Damon Kovel and the aasimar Hedera. While never an official member of Rakka's Heroes, he was rewarded 10,000GP by Director Astara for assisting in the fight against Hedera. The money went a long way towards covering his gambling debts, and after the disbandment of the adventuring group he returned to Qilthani with Cig and helped oversee a local mercenary guild. For a while life was stable and safe in the ports of Qilthani, but as the years wore on he was surprised to see his old adventuring partner Seraphina Cedarroost at the Laughing Gnoll tavern. Seraphina explained how she was now working for an intelligence network in service of the halfling Treeleaf Union, and she had stopped by to see if Christopher would be interested in joining. It'd be fine to say no, but the halfling rogue made it clear that this spy network had very reliable information about his gambling debts to Sardivelia. And so Christopher found himself employed by THEM in what was meant to be the twilight of his hobgoblin life. He stayed in Qilthani and continued working with Cig, but his work with THEM compelled him to travel further afield to gather information about the political situation in the Southwest Passage. So long as there were debts to pay, Christopher would be finding odd jobs to make his way in the world. He became one of the region's most renowned adventurers, a reliable source of intel and gossip for merchants and heroes traveling through the region well into the 4th Cycle's tenth century.
