Falkovian

The Elves of the Permafrost

We are a race that was hidden away from the world at our own want. Ever pushing the limits of magic, while keeping their traditions and honor alive, feeling as if a true Falkovian is nothing without these things.
— A Falkovian Scholar

The fair skinned and haired Elves of the southern pole once hidden by a wall of ice and storm. Hidden away by request of a once great leader. Often highly proficient in one-handed weapons, dual wielding weapons, and archery. While magically more adept in the schools of conjuration, divination, restoration, and illusion. Though even with traits lending them to be mostly politicians, mages, and scholars there are always those who hunt, farm, and tend to daily life to keep them going. Because where would their great society be if not for the little people or the lower class as they would call it.

History

The Falkovian started as a sect of Elves devoted to the following of the Eidolon Facara , calling themselves Falkovian. The Leader of the sect, Nieven Presydark, watched as the Elven race evolved. They watched over as the Drassi begin to appear, while there was very little racism between the Drassi and Elves, they did note the more bloodthirsty and warlike their dark-skinned brothers were. When the humans appeared the Elves and Drassi were at odds while the Facara followers did their best to stay out of the middle of everything, they were ultimately pulled into the middle of it.   In the midst of the political and physical battle, the Drassi offered an alliance via a marriage between the son of Nieven and Iymriia Vrammyr, daughter of the Drassi leader Vorn. But it was never to be done. Before everything could be done, the Humans and Elves banded together and with help from the Eidolons sealed the Drassi away. Also during this time Ascal Presydark and Iymriia Vrammyr grew close and fell in love, and with the threat of never seeing her again, Ascal took his own life but Lymriia couldn’t follow through with him. With the loss of both the Drassi and his son, Nieven pulled the sect into seclusion and devoting more to prayer and record keeping.   Soon the time came when the Elves began to worry about their monk-like brothers, Nieven fear of what they had done to the Drassi would soon befall them, he called for help from the Eidolon Facara. Understanding the fears of Nieven, she moved them to the farthest mountain range called the Khazin at the time and sealed them with a magical barrier. It was the only thing she could do for them.   Behind the barrier the sect evolved into a race, growing in their own right over the thousands of years they were protected from the world of Eiria. The one thing Facara didn’t inform them was that the barrier’s life was tied to the life of the Iymriia. For thousands of years the Falkovian race evolved into what they are now, and after the storm finally failing, they have access to the world of Eiria.

Important Notes

Historical Figures
Nieven Presydark
As the first leader of the Falkovians he is held in high regard and though no one would ever hold his blood in their veins there are a few noble held families that have adopted either his first or last name or they will mention their connection to him in their standard greeting. Example: Lor Telloth Great Grandson of Nigel Telloth council member of Nieven Presydark.

Ascal Presydark
First son and only child of Nieven Presydark, often referred to in reverence as The First Son. While his short life is never spoken about as it is taboo to remind others of the dark times in their history. He is only fondly remembered as someone who was to bring peace and hopefully settle the issues of the past. Which due to Facara are fuzzy and possibly why it's taboo to speak about his life as it is not fully remembered.

Iymriia Vrammyr
The betrothed to Ascal Presydark, while the memory of her people is gone, she was seen as a Falkovian by the people at her time. Since she was a pale-skinned Elven woman and seen as a kind young girl, they still remember her as either a strange loophole in the promise of the Eidolons or a cruel joke of Facara. Often the people refer to her as The Longing Daughter, she is often referenced when speaking about death and lost souls. Example: May The Longing Daughter guide them back or hold them close.

Iolas Eilfiel
During a dark time in the Falkovian time, there was a massive riot at the Falastine Prison, a guard walk out due to the treatment of their fellow Falkovians was the spurring moment for the riot. Lolas was a lowly prison guard at the time of the riot and was one of the only reasons that the riot was quelled and he was later promoted to Warden of Falastine Prison.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
While the Falkovians believe they are one of the only ones left after the eternal storm they still keep memory of their feelings towards the races of their past. Humans and Elves are distrustful, they remember the time of the sealing, even though they do not remember the Drassi, they know their fear of Humans and Elves were the cause.

This is a great article! Layout and details are well layed out and this is a great use of the sidebar, placeholder links and the provided Worldanvil fields.
I love the quote in the beginning to set the mood, although after this some sentences feel almost too short.
The only thing missiing is a nice cover art, I hope you will find a nice picture soon! Very well done!

Welcome to Ekozia!

Thank you! Yes, I can agree some of my sentences are very short. I tend to struggle a little bit with 'I have put too much in, I should cut back.' I may come back and edit those tiny little sentences.

Very good article ! It gives a good idea of the whole race. I don't think I would get along with any of them, haha. I have three things to point out:

  • there's a repetition in the beauty standard section, the phrase about male complexion
  • I would love to see some links with an excerpt set up on some terms, like Eidolon. That would help understanding and would allow to go learn more easily.
  • I'm a bit concern about their economy. It sounds like they're all idle nobles. how do they eat ? how do they provide to their needs ? Do they have needs ??

Did I? Crap. Thank you for pointing that out. I possibly forgot to take it out when editing from my notes and didn't notice. Thank you!   That is planned for links to things like what is an Eidolon. I just haven't gotten down to figuring out what template I am using for it.   "Magic" All joking aside, I should really add that in since there is actually a section for that. Thank you!

I like how you get so much into detail on customs and ideals. I'm usually more interested in the cultural than the physical, alas in my world all the races are mixed up among one another, so there is no specific "race" culture so it's much harder to describe it as vividly as you did here. You are using language well and I like how you have a great vocabulary when describing everything.   I like the race although more for the real work you did on the article, than the race itself. To me it's kinda just "eh, your common fantasy elf". Your attention to detail and work on the article helps make them stand out above the other "common elves" however. REALLY nice work!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I mean the culture, to me, is the important part, other than small biological differences, it's about the only thing that sets apart a group of people.   Again, thank you so much for the kind words, they mean a lot to me!

This is a very well done article. the layout is well designed, the quote at the start begins the picture and the details related to their culture, rituals, and beliefs seal it very well together. The image in the sidebar and the description of their appearance has a fantastic combination of traits that paint the "noble, prideful, superiority complex" that used to be found in elves so often and made them such fun to play. They remind me of a mixture of Storm Giants in many ways from the Forgotten Realms universe.   Overall well done, enjoyed the read, and followed your world! Looking forward to reading more articles from you!

I love the quote at the beginning, it sets up the rest of the article so well. I also like the detail that went into this race, it depicts a vivid image of what the typical Falkovian would be like in the world.
