The Gummy Trucks

The gummy trucks don't need music to attract the crowds of children.   With the exception of the Mubari and Khitim cultures, cultivation and harvesting of synad trees is practiced throughout the world of Eilea. Once synad trees are mature, their wood is a valued construction resource. As with any lumber harvesting operation, once cut the trees must be transported. At some point almost all synad trees end up on a truck going through a village, town or city. Any time the gum trucks roll, children of all ages will line the streets hoping to get hardened gum nuggets knocked loose from the travelling trees.   Gum nuggets are a popular candy distributed as a sweetened, sanitized much milder form of raw synad gum nuggets. Picking raw nuggets from live trees is frowned upon by foresters or land owners for liability reasons. So when a chance to get a raw unrefined nugget, for FREE, occurs, everyone is happy! Well, everyone except the parents of the happy hyper packs of children who run laughing through the neighborhood, knowing they may not sleep for a day or two.   There are full strength gum nuggets available for adults, who don't care to partake of any of the recreational derivations. Even with those available, it's not uncommon to find grown-ups casually looking for overlooked nuggets, just for the thrill of the treasure hunt and a return to their childhood.   When students are truant, it is very common to find crowds of children lining the streets leading to the lumber mills, especially if word is leaked of the arrival of a synad tree shipment. One time a lumber company tried using enclosed trucks. Half of their fleet were destroyed in the ensuing riots. It's amazing how much damage a thousand youth can create in the space of 90 minutes.
