Eldium

Eldium is one of the most valuable metals on the island, often sought out by swordsmen and the wealthy for it's very effective combat uses and it's unique and beautiful colour respectively. The material has become one of the cornerstones of blood sorcery as it directly reacts with blood, making both the weapon and the blood it is exposed to much more dangerous. This is pretty much the only material that chikages, rakuyos, and any other tool of blood sorcery is made of. Outside of blood sorcery it has a number of uses in the improvement of technology as superconductors such as it are beginning to become needed, with the discovery of electricity being so close at hand.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Eldium is a very dense metal with a reddish silver look to it when properly refined, though when unrefined it looks much the same as iron.

Physical & Chemical Properties

It is quote hard, scoring 8.3 Mohs, It is not ductile, but it is malleable, it conducts electricity well, and it is quite dense. It is not flammable, it will melt if exposed to enough heat and it is barely reactive. The only thing that it will truly react to is blood, It warms up but does not begin to melt.

Geology & Geography

The ore itself can only be mined in the inner Tokugawa Mountains, however if you are looking to buy it there is usually someone selling it (albeit for a high price) somewhere in any of the large cities.

Origin & Source

It is a natural compound of silver, iron, and dorethite, a crystal which is only known to form in the inner Tokugawa Mountains. Small traces of it can be found aboveground, differentiated from iron by the discolouration of the ground around it, but most of it is gained in mines found from these outcroppings.
