Edo Empire

History

In 7597AC, Yuuto Kobayashi managed to get all the sides of the Age of Turmoil (even the goblinoids) to declare a temporary peace in order to have better diplomatic relations moving forward with the war, and to have more humane battles. Over the next year and a half she would further extend her power and influence, gaining supporters and employees in all factions. On Fall the 3rd, 7599AC, Yuuto Kobayashi sent out 5 letters that would change the fact of the world. Each letter contained an order for the assassination of one the leaders of each of the factions. On the 9th all of them were killed within an hour, and before the news got to the public Yuuto declared the new Edo Empire.   From then on the Edo Empire extended it's grasp through the land, first taking over the now leaderless organizations through somewhat forceful means, then establishing armies within these territories, then forcing the demilitarization of the nations over a 10 year period. During this time the goblinoids freed themselves (for the second time in history) from a human rule by revolting and killing most of the armies in their forests. From there the empire moved to establish more friendly relations with the other races, extending apologies for their actions and beneficial offers for rebuilding. Sen was made the universal currency, the Court of Herubake was established, and the Edo Empire slowly became what it is today.

Examination/Analysis

Population is most dense in the areas surrounding cities, and the most populous cities are the ones closer to Misuto Lake (Edo, Okinaga, Shinjuku). Outside of these cities and the areas surrounding them the population density, by region from most to least, is: Misuto Lake Region, Ashikaga Forest, West Kizumachi Forest, Tokugawa Mountains, North Kizumachi Forest, Seikigahara Hills, East Kizumachi Forest, Otsukou Coast, Hideyoshi Mountains, Jagged Coast, Northern Coast, and finally Senpei Desert.

The majority of the educated population lies within populous cities and is in the middle and upper class, no surprise there. The most educated of those cities is Edo, followed by Shinjuku, Nagaoka, and Okinaga. Most crimes also take place in these cities, the most crime dense city is Aomori, followed by Dejima, Okinaga, and Edo. Also unsurprising is that most of the wealth is in cities. The wealthiest cities are: Edo, Dejima, Kamakura, and Nagaoka.

Foreign Relations

Because the Edo Empire rules the entire island the only truly foreign relations are with the trading isles to the South-East sea, but those relations boil down to, "We promise you trade and not to attack you if you promise us that all your offers will be fair, ok?" Given that the empire is composed of a number of semi-autonomous states, however, there is quite a lot about "internal foreign relations".

The Halflings of Seikigahara Hills

Although they started out extremely rocky, the modern relations with the halflings of Seikigahara Hills are extremely good. Trade between the halflings and major human cities (as well as nonhuman cities to a lesser extent) is at an all time high, ambassadors between the two are visiting on regular intervals and are agreeing on a surprising amount of things. Although the halflings still wish that they could be fully independent, they are quite content with their current position within the empire, as not much is being forced upon them. The empire wishes very little more of the halflings in return, simply asking that they keep their food industry at it's current production. Relation Status: Great

The Mountain Alliance

The Mountain Alliance, composed of Dwarves, Aarakocras, and a few less notable species such as mycanoids, has a fairly functional relationship with the Edo Empire. By far the most independent of the three semi-autonomous states, the Mountain Alliance operates much less on a diplomatic level and much more on a business level. Most of the metals and smithed goods come from the dwarves, who trade at reasonable prices for food and certain resources. Very few diplomats come and go between the empire and the alliance, partially doe to the somewhat treacherous nature of the journey, but also because both sides recognize that there is not much to be talked about or agreed upon. Edo diplomats have little power without the Emperor to back them up, and usually they do not. There is little change of revolution within the alliance, but the empire would like to have more control over them, or at least more involvement. Relation Status: Functional

The Elvish Clans

The elvish clans, unlike the previous two, do not make up a formal organization, and thus lack a certain power that the other two have. However, they are still a strong subsidiary to the empire and are strong allies. They do not offer much in the ways of trade, but they do offer protection, as elvish villages are strategically placed to prevent goblinoids form creating much havoc. Due to the fragmented nature of the elvish clans, it becomes somewhat hard to send diplomats, however, elves do have Shinjuku, where most of the diplomatic relations take place. The elves are quite loyal to thee do empire, almost unconditionally so, but the relationship is nonetheless imperfect. Relation Status: Good

Goblinoids

Goblinoid territory, though it does technically belong to the Edo Empire, has no relations with it. The goblinoids wish for nothing but war with the empire, for they seek power and partially freedom for their species. A few attempts have been made to talk with goblinoids, but most of them resulted in the diplomats head being ever so nicely delivered on a stick, or in a battle if the diplomat brought protection. Often times goblinoids launch attacks from the forests which are usually fended off by samurai or elves. Relation Status: Warring

Education

Though it is not government run or funded, there is a government recognized and supported education system in place, called the Nagaoka System due to the city of its origin. It is a standard curriculum which teaches children a standardized program of languages, maths, practicel skills and history in return for a monthly fee from parents. The system is year round and no mid year tests are given, students are expected to learn for their own good and prepare for exams. There are three grades, each which takes four years of study to complete. Aside from this system, the rich hire private tutors who can help with learning to a much higher degree, and those with middle to higher class positions can go to non government recognized universities of sorts which help to specialize in certain fields, much like the real world they grant a diploma.
