Ediphis

Within Ediphis there are three major countries: Halosa, Viliara, and Gritswell. They have recently begun recovering from a series of conflicts that ravaged their lands, known historically as the Era of Ten Wars.   Ediphis was a peaceful jumble of young, newly-congealed countries when the nation of Halosa came under the rule of a vain and vile queen. She and her successor, through manipulative trade practices, bribery, and assassination, brought neighboring countries to their knees and assimilated them.   Viliara soon formed as well, led by a man named Irvea who claimed to be the son of a woman and a Star. Partially through guile and partially through genuine kindness, Irvea brought several nations under his rule as he further developed his legend. Though he has passed, his people still fight viciously to bring his word to other countries — by force if necessary.   Gritswell was a small town that grew outwards as its population rapidly climbed, their ability to forge tools and weapons being the only advantage they needed to destroy competition in their path. With land too rocky and mountainous to cultivate, Gritswell relies on a booming mining industry and trade to survive. They defend the land, their livelihood, with malice—even and especially the mountain range that is technically not theirs.   Between Halosa's underhanded trickery, Viliara's religious mission, and Gritswell's territorial nature, tensions were bound to mount into war. At first, they were typical enough—swords and steeds, sieges and ships. But when Halosa began to turn to curses and hexes in order to win their battles, the other nations of the world were forced to follow suit if they were to stand a chance. With so much unchecked magic cascading across the land, spells began to mix in unpredictable ways. Curses and blessings mixed with hexes and glamours and produced terrifying side effects that ravaged not only the enemy they were aimed at, but every other country in Ediphis. Some villages experienced the death of all their children; others a disturbingly high number of births. These randomized events ultimately culminated in the destruction of an entire country at the continent's center, and the strained but exhausted peace that persists to this day.
