Lathem

Homeland of the Dragonskins

"Lathem is ... unique. surrounded in the south by lush plains and in the north by gelid badlands, and even though it is not as diverse as Zan'Ytel, Lathem still holds its charm by the uniqueness of the people who call it home, The Altherians. By far the most interesting of the species of Ebi, and perhaps the most secretive I've found.   Whilst a potent economical power on its own, the inhabitants of Lathem - that is, the Altherians - chose to have a simpler way of life. While some of their cities easily surpass the great elven capitals in terms of wealth and influence they hardly ever venture out, they find their resources to be better used to defend their home from invaders.   It is also where first contact was made, and the first Resistance base was built. I can only say that Altherians must have sympathized with our plea, as they were the first to offer a hand and to raise a sword in defence of their world against the Ascentants. It is hard to say where the Resistance effort in Ebi would be if not for the initiative of the Altherians"
-Philip Gerhart, Human Historian & Philosopher, Circa 39 BE
Lathem is the homeland of Altherians, Large, scaled, horned humanoids. It is also where Humans first landed on Ebi, and has several Human settlements. It is also home to a faction of Wild Elves and to many types of Beastfolk

Geography

Lathem is located North-east of Zan'Ytel, in the northern hemisphere of Ebi, close to the polar circle. it is encircled to the north by Angnvild's Sea, to the south-west by Sel-Vulgur's Sea and to the south-east by the Arkal Sea     Lathem is composed of a central landmass, which is the continent proper, surrounded by two Islands, Augus to the west, and Namira to the southeast. Lathem is divided in half by the Skyreaches, a mountain range that starts at the northwestern coast and ends in the southeastern coast, just north of the tract that separates Lathem from Namira.   To the south of the Skyreaches is where most of the fauna and flora of Lathem reside, this region is split by River Goltana, a major river which divides this region of the continent roughly in half, and feeds into The Maw. To the West of River Goltana are the vast and lush Blue Plains, with large outcroppings of rock and evergreen trees interspacing the terrain. River Goltana feeds into Lake Goltana, which is roughly at the middle point of the plains. in the center of the Blue Plains flows River Yuten, another major river that splits and irrigates the region.   South of River Goltana are the larger forests and wilderness of Lathem, called the Antiochs, which are inhabited by all manners of wildlife and is home of many unique species of plants not found anywhere else on Ebi. North of the Antiochs and East of River Goltana is the Whispering Valley, a mostly uncharted region of jungle known to be inhabited by Sylvans. to the south of the Whispering Valley is one of the most distinguishing landmarks of Lathem, The Horn, a lonely mountain separated from the Skyreaches and taller than any other mountain on Lathem.   To the north of the Skyreaches is a mostly flat region of tundra and frozen wasteland, with several rivers running down from the mountains into the sea. This area has very little vegetal and animal life despite its wetness, and is one of the coldest regions in Ebi, this region is simply known as The Wastes.   The Island of Namira is a very flat, low-altitude island, which is very vulnerable to floods, and is covered in a very dense Mangrove Swamp. In the very center of the island is a large hill which stands out from the low land surrounding it.   The Island of Augus is a high altitude plateau, surrounded on all sides by coastal cliffs that are on average a half hundred meters tall, with a shallow coastal shelf that expands for a few hundred meters. This combination of high altitude, cliffs on all sides and a long coastal shelf makes Augus a very difficult island to reach by boat.
