Festival of the Redeemed

In Karrnath the Festival of the Redeemed is a celebration honoring and remembering the fall of the Tower of the Twelve.   Small, local festivals take place in most settlements, but the major event is held in Korth. The original festival was invented and championed by the The Order of the Magnificent Butterfly as a way to honor the dead. The first of these festivals was held in 1015, fifteen years after the fall of the tower. It is the brainchild of Bonndedale, current grand monarch of the The Order of the Magnificent Butterfly .   The festival is three days of celebration. There are tournaments, feasts, and dances of all kinds, but each of the three days has some marquee events:

Day 1

  • Wintersyl Winter Carnival -- A celebration of the beauty of winter, parks in the city are filled with ice sculptures, snowdrifts, and other treats.
  • Jaargen's Pantomime - During the first day of the festival, theater troupes put on comic theatrical performances, all telling very silly stories that involve mistaken identity, fish out of water, swapped genders or races, and so on. The moral of each of the plays are meant to be "we are all the same under the skin".
  • Greygale's Release -- On the first night of the festival, from dusk until dawn, marriage vows are suspended. A variety of local events at taverns, inns, and brothels take advantage of this and celebrate a night of festivities.

Day 2

  • Bruggart and Melvyn's Paper and Crystal Market -- a street market and festival of the written word takes place. The festival celebrates monastic writing, arcane writing, history, and poetry.
  • Viktor's tasting -- on the second night of the festival, all prohibitions on the use of drugs and drink are lifted, and hallucinogenic experimentation is celebrated and enabled.

Day 3

  • Blue Bari's Belts -- Combat tournaments for individuals and teams take place through all three days of the tournament, and they culminate in arena battles on the final day. Victors are awarded massive gold belts in three categories: Martial Solo, Magic Solo, and Party
  • Willow's Lottery -- in a lottery on the third night of the festival, residents of Karrnath who have lost a loved one can submit that loved one's name to a lottery to be resurrected or animated, depending upon the family's wishes.
The festival is five years old now. Despite how close many of the surviving Troublemakers are, none of them have ever accepted an invitation to come to the festival, take part, or even give their blessing to the festivities.
