Bel Shalor, the Shadow in the Flame

Bel Shalor is one of the Overlords who ruled over all of Eberron during the Age of Demons. Bel Shalor was bound by the dragons and couatl after they jointly discovered the Draconic Prophecy, and the couatl sacrificed themselves to form the Silver Flame.   All of the Overlords embody mortal fears. Bel Shalor embodies our fear of other mortals, the suspicion that other people mean us harm and that we can't trust anybody, even our friends. It thrives on paranoia and grows stronger every time a good person is driven to do terrible things.   In 299 YK, Bel Shalor achieved a partial release from its prison within the Silver Flame and dominated the nation of Thrane for a time, before being bound by Tira Miron, a paladin of Dol Arrah. This event established the modern Church of the Silver Flame, but may have been a trick to exert new influence over the world from within its new prison.   Though bound again by the Silver Flame following Tira Miron's sacrifice, Bel Shalor is more aware of it's surroundings than the other Overlords. It amplifies fears and suspicions, and encourages greed and self-interest. Bel Shalor convinces us that our neighbours mean us harm, and that the only way to survive is to get them before they get us.
