Federation of Adventurers
The Federation of Adventurers is a guild, focused on making powerful allies within the nation of Khorvaire. It is headquartered in Sharn. The guild existed long ago, but its headquarters were lost on the Day of Mourning setting the guild back to almost nothing. The survivors decided it was important to rebuild, and they reformed the new Federation of Adventurers, where they have grown to considerable influence again.
The current leadership employs a council, where all voices have an equal say. Because of this, they maintain an odd number of seats to avoid ties. There is no one voice that is considered to be the most important, and thus no default leader, though each seems to have their own sub faction of followers within the organization.

History
The Federation goes back far, but most of what they had was lost on the Day of the Mourning. Only a handful have managed to survive, and they have been working to rebuild for the last 4 years. Their old headquarters was lost within Cyre, along with all of the old leadership. The recent leaders have taken on that heavy mantle, and have managed to get the Federation back into powerful standing with most of the powerful organizations within Khorvaire.

Why the Federation?
The Federation of Adventurers gives us a good tie in for all characters in the group. Since everybody is either working for, or with, the Federation you have a reason to sit at the table with a bunch of strangers without the need to figure out why you are there. We can just say you're there because you've accepted a job, and jump right into the action. So, the Federation becomes a sort of glue that connects the whole experience, and our characters, into one cohesive story. Think about why you may have joined, and what the federation means to your character... or maybe its as simple as taking well paying jobs! And since the Federation is growing in influence, no doubt many of the other nations, dragonmarked houses, or even rival guilds might just be sending their own spies to keep tabs on what we are doing.
