Boneserpents
Torn asunder, swallowed whole 'n' without a trace,
a horribly gruesome fate to face.
When the dust has settled and your friends are gone,
you will realize you were in the wrong.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Boneserpents are giant worms that have mutated from exposure to unnaturally high amounts of Ley-Line energies. These gargantuan creatures are large enough to swallow even the biggest Half-Orc without issue. The first five or so feet of a Boneserpent's mouth are covered in rows and rows of razor-sharp teeth able to tear through flesh and stone alike. These creatures are covered in robust scales and have spikes covering their spines, helping them to effortlessly cut through the ground.
Genetics and Reproduction
When the Ley-Line running through Kysa got disrupted in the year 444, many of the creatures inhabiting the part of the continent now known as the Wasteland were affected by the rapidly expanded Ley-Line energy and mutated.
Fortunately for the people inhabiting the Wasteland, Boneserpents cannot procreate. It is unknown how many of them used to be but it has been established that there are between a handful and a dozen of them remaining.
Growth Rate & Stages
It is unclear whether the Boneserpents living in the Wasteland are adolescents or adults and how big they could grow.
Ecology and Habitats
Boneserpents live in the Wasteland, burrowed in the sand. When they are thusly buried, they are completely invisible unless they move.
Because they mutated from long-term exposure to unnaturally high amounts of Ley-Line energy, they require a similarly high density of Ley-Line energy to stay alive and cannot survive in environments with lower concentrations.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Boneserpents absorb some of the ley-line energy saturating the ground of the Wasteland when burrowing their way through the earth. They also are carnivorous and occasionally surface when they feel movement on the surface of their territory.
Because they churn through rock and sand when moving through the ground, it is assumed that they have incredibly strong stomach acid.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Boneserpents are solitary creatures, living and hunting on their own. From what has been observed, each Boneserpent has its own territory that it sticks to and is very protective of.
Average Intelligence
Boneserpents excel at ambushing unsuspecting prey. When it comes to other aspects of life, however, they seem rather dim-witted.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Although Boneserpents are virtually blind, they have Tremorsense and can use it to navigate the earth and find prey.
Civilization and Culture
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
The Half-Orcs of Dhon Az'dugh, who also inhabit the Waste, have learned the territories of the Boneserpents and how to navigate and avoid these areas as best they can.
