Bluecap Mushroom
Basic Information
Genetics and Reproduction
The Bluecap reproduces asexually by releasing spores. In places like the Sandy Steppe, this process is aided by the abundant sand storms resulting from the many thunderstorms of the warmer months. They help to carry the spores and plant them in the ground. It takes about 3 to 4 months for a settled spore to grow into fully formed Bluecap Mushrooms.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Bluecap Mushrooms have access to the groundwater table due to their deep-reaching mycelium. They feed on organic matter, such as dead plants, or tissue from animals or even humanoids. As organic matter like that is not always readily available in deserts, bigger patches of Bluecaps can be an indicator of a place harbouring a dark past. More than one mass grave, sacrificial pit and cave system have been found underneath or near them.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Travellers are wont to this Mushroom as a source of water in emergencies. Although the mushroom's flesh is safe to eat, many find its somewhat sulphuric taste off-putting.
Naming
Surprisingly enough, the Bluecap Mushroom does not have a blue cap. Instead, it was named thusly because the spongy, grey cap holds a surprising amount of water - and many people associate the colour blue with water.Geographic Origin and Distribution
The Bluecap Mushroom requires high temperatures to flourish. Due to the hyphae reaching hundreds of feet below the ground, this mushroom has access to the ground water table no matter how deep it lies. This allows the Mushroom to thrive in desert biomes.
