Annual Arena Power Games
Ookla shakes his head and emits a furious caterwaul.
Thundarr is not amused. He looks at you. You had the watch, what happened? I can't stay awake forever.

Ariel sees her hands are shackled together. "Someone knows about us." She points to her chest. She brushes off some red powder. Thundarr we were victims of the pollen from The Deathflower. She looks at you. "I have read about Caroon, but you seem to have been here what do you know about what is going on?"
History
Explain the History of the AAPG
Caroon is a citadel run by one of the Council of Wizards.
The ruler of this place is the Wizard Volgara. Her wealth and influence come from revenues of gambling and gaming events. Her twisted ideas caught the attention of the Council and they recently brought her on board to promote the Annual Power Games.
The Council learned from ancient archives of a worldwide event created to channel conflicts through gladiatorial contests instead of bloodshed. So far 30 cities worldwide participate in the Annual Power Games and it is slowly gaining recognition and reputation.
Execution
Ariel snaps her fingers, "Now I remember something my father mentioned a year ago. He was training his top champions, Thundarr and Ookla, for a regional contest soon; then our city was attacked.
You follow up her point explaining that the top champions of cities were sent to Council Arenas for more challenges. Most of the games required wits, feats of strength, speed, and technological awareness. Winners would then be promoted for the big event here in Caroon every summer.
Components and tools
Thundarr pulls his chain to rip it from the wagon flooring, but a flurry of old straw is all that comes up. "More battle pits! These Wizards use our blood for coin and to cart off more humans for their camps. Ookla and I were among these battle contenders for Sabian. I swore it would never happen again!"
Ariel ignores the rage bubbling up from her companion and tries to gather more from you.
"My stepfather did an Arena of his own. He used human slaves to fight other humans or mutants from other Wizards. They would often fight for their lives as they bet on them. Does this Volgara do the same?"
While most Wizards around the world use a "Last Man Standing" contest. Volgara utilizes more events for entertainment value. You recall some of the contests you endured in her Arenas:

- Fire Chariot - You must run back and forth from a well to put out a burning pyre from a captured caravan vehicle. You are given a small wooden bucket and the vehicle is 50 yards away.
- Escape the depths - The contenders are rounded up in a net and thrown in the middle of a muck swamp. First three that stand on the solid ground move on.
- Phasor Tag - All contenders are grouped in teams of four thrown in a maze complex. One team member has to emerge with a flag. Phasors stun opponents for 1 minute.
- Race of Dread - Wizards bring vehicles of their own design and their riders race through a treacherous pathway
- Dance off - Contestants are thrown in a room where Wizards blast them with their energy projectiles from above. The last one standing wins.
- Taste of the Wild - various foods are thrown in a pit with hungry monsters. You keep what you find or kill
Participants
You recall that Volgara likes a variety of races, but humans are usually the majority of contenders representing the Wizard Lords throughout the world. Moks are a crowd pleaser too.
Ookla grumbles and nods in agreement.
Observance
The midsummer heat beats upon you. The gathering has begun. Volgara and the other Wizards have sent out "invites" to anyone within earshot. Promises of wealth, freedom passes, endless rations weapons, and other technology.
The caravan approaches heavily armed sentries to meet them at the gates of Caroon. The Carocs - Croc Men jump off their lead wagon to register for the games.
"We are here." Ariel comments. "What should we do now?"
Thundarr looks at all of you and puts up a rally fist. "We will win."

A drone flies overhead and hovers at your eye level. A promotional video of one of the events pops up
"The Hunger Games" event was a dreadful experience that had to be "modified" last year. Volgara promises enhanced opportunities and audience participation options ..for the right price.
