Grand Duchy of Lesparia

Structure

Lesparia is a Arch duchy, meaning that the head of state is the Duke or Duchess. They act as chief executive of the country, responsible for the movement of the military, security, and public services. The Monarch is bound to the limiting roles in the constitution however. Lawmaking, taxes, and regulation of commerce is held by the legislative authority, known as the Assembly. It is an elected position, and the unicameral institution is equal in power, in view of the Constitution, to the Duke or Duchess.

History

Lesparia was first settled in the 7000's RB. in the 200's, Lespaira and the surrounding lands were first introduced to Christianity, through Ostedia. The lands, covered in varying agrarian civilizations, Tribianism found sportatic use, but the more popular and culturall similar Pradewlian belief Deutainism, due to closer geographical location and more similar continuities in expected cultural practices. saw the In 900, The first invasion of Peraquiem was   In 1128, King Alexandre was appointed king of the Lesparian kingdom, establishing the Nadelinigian dynasty. The kingdom used its increased political stability to expand its lands westward. By the year 1413, increased pressure and destabilization from invading Advenusian forces, much more organized than previous invasions, dramatically shrunk Lesparia's influence, ita army being unable to fight the more organized and armed Advenusian powers. Lesparia was conquered, and the armies killing King Josue in 1421. A united Peraquiem confederation of various states soon overcame the threatening invaders, and without a clear communication line and intense local resistance, allowed the country to be liberated by the united Corsin forces in 1448. King Isaac of Cropia, having disposed of the muslim forces, reinstated the once powerful lesparian kingdom, drawing a much larger border, as most political authority had been decimated. The new country faced difficulties staying together, with some of the easternmost provinces outright refusing to obey the ruling Duke.   Lesparia's main advantage over its surrounding kingdoms was its technological level. Using its monopoly on access to Bermion trade, Leparia gained new products from other Peraqueim nations. That, as well as superior training, allowed Lesparia to dominate its weaker neighbors. The country Lesparia continued to increase its power by building new public works projects, much more ambiguous than other countries at the time. While other countries relied on feudal or worker-based systems, Lesparia used a system of labor tax to press workers. The country experienced a period of social and economic growth as a result. King Chandler II assumed the throne in 1573. Chandler was most notable for the interactions with neighboring Ostedia and Pradewl, the former of which agreed to new territorial borders, settling centuries long disputes over the Eplemptian region.   Lesparia faced cultural instability in the 1611, when Deutain and Tribian groups clashed over increased social tension, mostly in eastern provinces of the county. Civil unrest rocked the country, before exploding into full on class warfare. The lack of strong leadership led to a rapid decline in the strength of Lesparia' military. Through reform and protest efforts, the king abdicated. In its place, an Assembly, a legislative from aimed at uniting the splintering states, and a Duke of the eastern province acting as chief executive, were able to save the country and end most cultural conflict, but cultural and religious boundaries sharply grew, leading to internal migration during this period. In 1743, Leapria lost its holdings in Eplemptia, due to a lack of political representation and cultural and religious differences in the Lesparia. This lack of assimilation split the population away from Lesparian control. Despite Leaparia's strong communication and control over the region, Lesparia was pressured from neighboring power of Ostedia to release its holdings, and the country released control through peaceful means. This crises, combined with the collapse of another large trading souce, Ostedia, encouraged Lesparia continued to expand its political holdings, but found little interaction with other imperial powers due to its distance to Peraquiem.   As an impact of increasing loss decline, Lesparia began to focus on economic domination. The nation developed a more independent economic system, focused on increasing industrial power. New technologies from Lesparia, such as the steam engine, transitioned the country to a factory-based country in the late 1800's. The Advenusian War, between Lesparia's colony in Advenusia, and Talgary's holdings, erupted in 1923, After Lesparia disagreed over borders, and Economic conflict over Corsin and the use of the Suiem Inlet. Lesparia declared war on Talgary and Corsin, but due to a lack of geographical advantage and economic backing, Lesparia lost. This had a vast impact on cultural morale and economic output. The lack of available markets led to a economic downturn, and spiraling decreasing in investments and bank collapses led to the Great Stagnation. Lesparia has hit the hardest, and recovered the slowest. Lesparia's lack of recovery is also tied to its lack of participation in WWI. Corsin and its Peraquiem allies soon helped Lesparia recover over the next twentieth century. Leaparia's investment in education has led it to be a center for technological innovation in its research labs and universities, which have continued to be a center for development.

Demography and Population

The population of Lesparia is around 162 million people. Lesparia has a very uniform population of native Lesparians, which have lived on the Lesparian peninsula for most of history. The Ostedian ethnicity, found on the eastern tip of the peninsula, is a very closely related cousin to the Lesparian ethnicity. Most of these peoples are migrants from neighboring Eplemptia. Ostedians and Arabians are also common in the eastern and western lands of the country respectively. Most of the population live in the southeastern and southern lands of the country, due to its warmer climate. The literacy rate is 99.6%, due to the importance that education is held to by Lesparia. The most common language in Lesparia is English, being the oldest language to be used in Lesparia, although Pavultish, Poleic, and Arabic are also spoken.

Territories

Lesparia has a wide array of different biomes in its country. the westernmost provinces are home to cold desert landscapes, the temperature fluctuating from high to low degrees during the day and night. Its northern and eastern lands are more mountainous and sparse in both population and vegetation. Much of the northernmost lands are covered in cold Tundra for most of the year. The freezing winters that make up this region and the frozen ocean it borders means that the population is more dense in the south. The central and southeastern coastal lands of Lesparia are the most populated, living in grasslands that border Pradewl. The central strip of the country is home to Temperate forests.

Technological Level

Lesparia has a history of technological innovation. It is known for its extensive historical college institutions that expand scientific research. Many new technologies have originated from the country. Lespaira's historical library in the capital is also a center for knowledge and historical recording.

Religion

The most practiced religion in Lesparia is Deutian, originating from Pradewlian tribes south of the kingdom. The church came to be introduced through extensive trade, as Pradewl goods, namely food, was sent to Lesparia throughout the early first century. Missionaries established churches and schools, and a majority of the population converted to the religion over time. Deutianism, while common and supported by a majority of the population across all social classes, has a much lower influence in society than other nations. Tribianism also spread through trade with the neighboring nation of Ostedia, but was less common, large sects of Tribianism are only found in the eastern part of Lesparia.

Agriculture & Industry

Lesparia has strong mining and extracting industries, mining valuable resources such as coal. Wet and durable crops are grown in the country, such as beans and squash. Large wheat and grain farms are only found in the warmer, southern border of the country. Much of Lesparia's economy rests on its manufacturing base. New technologies, such as machines, electronics, and other consumer goods. These factories employ most of the population.

Trade & Transport

Most of Lespaira's major manufactured exports are shipped through its few, though large and important ports along both the Bermion Ocean and Suiem Inlet, both outlets which are vital to sustain most of its trade. Goods are carried by massive cargo ships which sail to other nations and their markets. Other cargo is shipped through the interstate road networks by trucks that connect into Eplemptia and Pradewl.

Education

Local schools provide the bulk of education for children in the country. Lesparia has a huge network of prestigious and long established universities that attract the world's scholars to be educated and develop groundbreaking research.
