The Silver Hunt
The Silver Hunt is, in short, a werewolf hunt ran by The Silver Knights based out of Balan. Each full moon, they gather up the people of the city to a location near where werewolves are known to be and release squads of hunters to seek out the werewolves and kill them. The citizens who don't participate hold a festival in Balan to welcome the hunters home when morning comes around. It is a sport that is frowned upon in the post-apocalyptic world, as many consider werewolves to be victims of an incurable disease rather than monsters. There are werewolf rehab centers across The Free West that focus on teaching werewolves to control their powers. The Knights, however, see no merit in rehabilitation and wish only to wipe out the plague that is lycanthropy.
History
The Hunt only officially began in the early 150's with an unnamed band of monster hunters, but it has been an unofficial tradition amongst werewolf hunters for centuries. A tradition of convenience: it was simply easier to discern who was a werewolf while the full moon was out. Over time, however, it became a monthly celebration of sorts. Now, all able-bodied citizens of Balan engage in The Silver Hunt in an attempt to cleanse the world of its werewolf population.
Components and tools
The most important tool of the hunt is one's weapon. Werewolves take more damage from silver weapons, so each hunter carries one of their choice. Guns are permitted, but many prefer to get up-close and personal with their kills, wielding archaic weaponry instead.
Participants
The participants are divided into teams of approximately 4-6 people. They try to make a point of including multiple weapon types in each group to cover their bases. Each group has a squad leader, known as the Bow, while each other member is an Arrow. There is also a group of scouts called Fletches who spend the time between hunts tracking down werewolf dens and packs. Oftentimes this leads them hours away from Balan, but distance is no obstacle to these bloodthirsty hunters.
Observance
The Silver Hunt is performed on every full moon, as many new werewolves don't have the self-control to stay in human form during one. It is even relatively common for a hunter to discover a werewolf in the interim period between hunts and keep tabs on it until the hunt comes around again.
