Blood Ink Pen

Mechanics & Inner Workings

In essence, it works exactly the same as a regular fountain pen. Ink goes in a tube inside the body of the pen and comes out a pointed tip. The only difference is the magic behind it: rather than fill the ink with the writer's blood like a normal blood pact would require, this pen is filled with regular ink and magically attunes to the holder of the pen, making the ink act as if it were filled with the contract signer's blood. This makes it so people are less hesitant to sign blood pacts, as it as viewed as more civilized and modern, but the owner of the pen could also easily trick the signer into tying their soul to the contract without realizing it. Doc tends to shy away from this practice, but he would be willing to do it if it were necessary to further The Rebellions cause. Also, this pen allows Doc to not have to prick himself every time he needs to sign a contract, which is a neat little bonus.

Significance

The pen is the only known instrument that can fulfill a blood pact that doesn't require any blood to be spilled. The only person who knows how it was made is Doc, who created it, and Phineas Gage, who advised on the process.

The shaft is made of polished ivory, the ink vial of Vinestan glass, and the trimmings of solid gold. There is also a spell engraved on the inside of the shaft that makes the pen nearly indestructible and reflects dirt and grime quite effectively, so it always shines as if it were brand new.
